SEir Why John, where aro you go
ing to in such a hurry?
Why, I ran going to LAUMACITS, hi Market street,
tr buy a nice lot of Furniture ,
Well, John, ran you tell me the reason why Launaen
sells so much were Furniture and Chairs than all the
'Cabinet-makers in Lebanon together? -
Yes, John, I think I can tell tltat reason Tory plainly
- he has always rut by far the largest and best assort-
Monts of all }duds of Furniture and Matra an b au d ,
which he also sells a great deal cheaper than any other
Cabinet-ranker; besides he has an excellent cushioned
Furniture Wagon with which he delivers all Furniture
quid Chairs sold by him, free of charge: these I think
'to be very good and advantageous reasons. xis
By reference to the notice in another
Tolman, it will be seen that the Philadelphia and
Reading R. R. Company, will keep open the
respective situations for any of their employees
who will volunteer, and will be given to them
again upon their return. This is an honorable
and patriotic proposition.
Our old friend Wm. Zimmerman has
purchased the Driguerrean establishment of John

lie is a good operatGr and will give satisfaction
to all who visit his rooms.
A military meeting was held in the
Court House, on Friday eveving, at which Rev.
Dr. Harbaugh presided. - He made a abort ad
dress, more practical and to the point than any
we have listened to since the present troubles
have come over the country. Would that all our
speakers and writers would exercise a little more
good sense and judgment, and not fly off the
handle and into party, as they are too 'apt to do.
Everybody present seemed to endorse the senti
ments of the Rev. gentlemen.

TIIE SECOND CONTANY
On Friday morning the 2d Company was start
ed. After several ineffectual attempts to induce
suitable persons to accept the Captaincy, L. L.
'Greenawalt accepted the position. Recruiting
'then commenced in good earnest, and every one
.enrolled constituting himself a committee to
,procure others. The work progressed so well
:that by Saturday - evening, when they left for
:Harrisburg, about 1311 names were on the roll.—
The Captain is the only &Ricer selected thus far.
Captain Greenawalt will, we believe, make as
:good a Captain as could be found in this locali
ty. He is young, popular, enterprising and
.brave.
Most of the members of this company are
young men—some barely of the, required age,
and but few over 30 yenra old. Hence an addi
tional duty is devolved upon the officers of the
company, gurrding them against inexperience
and indiscretion. Of their fighting qualities no
one doubts. They W ill rush where angles fear to
tread. As many of them are sons2nd relatives
of our first citizens, intelligent ialltl chivalrous,
we expect to chronicle some heriie doings of
them for the good. cause. The following' is the
roll of the company as it left Lebanon. As there
will be a curtailment of it—it exceeding the
maximum number for n company, we shall re
publish the list corrected next week

MUCH SICKNESS
_From, "Ezposure to a Draft."
Of the "Danger of Exposure to a Draft," we of
ten rend,
That it generates disorder which a re very bad
indeed !
But the danger from "Exposure to a draft" was
ne'er so great,
As, h judge front indications, it has grown to be
of lute.
Of all our "loyal citizens," I think I cannot
tell
Of more than half a dozen who are "feeling very
well ;"
And so various are the phrases of an illness from
one cause,
That I wonder Dame Nature still is steadfast to
her laws.
One is halt, and one is blind, a third is deaf as
any Post
A fourth gone' in consumption, and eon hardly
walk at most;
A fifth is dying daily from a weakness of the
spine,
And a sixth is fading slowly in a general de
cline.
There is JENKINS, stalwart-looking, standing six
feet in his shoes;
And his cheeks so plump look ruddy as the sun
set's golden hues;
Bat, alas! the fund delusion! 'tis a hectic Rush
we see—
'Tis a pulmonary JENKINS, who ere long must
cease to be.
Thorn is MonoNs with an abdomen protrusive
and rotund,
Ono would think his "constitution as it is" dis
ease had shunned :
But the Dropsy, that deceitful and insidious COQI-
Phi int,
Das begotton his distinction—"you may ask him
if it hu'at!"
If Jeff Davis were a man of any gumption he
would know
That he wastes b is ammunition when be shoots a
dying foe:
Just let him halt in Dixie till a - few more months
are sped,
And I'm sure our "loyal citizens" will nearly all
be dead !
THE NATIONAL PLATFORM
PURPOSES O_FIXIILE_W_Aft.
Congress, by a vote nearly unanimous, passed
the following resolution, which expresses the
voice of the Nation and is the true standard of
loyalty
"That the present deplorable civil war has been
forced upon the country by the disunionists of
the Southern States, now in . mans against the
Constitutional Government, and in arms around
the Capital; that in this National emergency,
Congress, banishing all feeling of mere passion
or resentment, will recollect only its deity to the
whole country; that this war is not waged on
their part in any spirit of oppression, or for any
purpose of conquest or subjugation or purpose of
overthrowing or interfering with the rights or
established institutions of those States, but to de
fend and maintain the supremacy of the Consti
tution, and to preserve the Union, with all the
dignity, equality, and rights of the several States
unimpaired ; and that as soon as these objects
are accomplished the war ought to etude."
