Her Own Throat.—The QUebec (C. E.)
Chronicle, of the 224 inst. gives the fol
lowing account of a terrible tragedy in
that city :
We learned last night, from - a gentle
man from Arthabaskaville, that a shock
ing tragedy had occurred in the township
of SanfOrd, about three miles from the
station, some time yesterday morning.—
A woman nained, M'dme Bourret, who
has manifested symptoms of insanity
years ago, and before her marriage, and
whose husband is now in " the United
:.murdered her seven children,
And then cut her own throat It appears
that 'on Sunday night there was- a veillee
attherliousei and the thing must have oc
octrtkd between the departure of the guests
and morning, for an early hour. yesterday
M'dme Bourret's daughter, who
had been at the veillee, but resided at
StYorhert, called at her mother's to see
her
Fitiding the door closed, she looked in
through the window, and was then shock
'o..,to -.see eight Corpses-Lthose of her
rnother, her brothers and sisters. The'
eldest,of 'the murdered children, a g,irl
fourteen years of 7 age, seemsto.have had
a desperate struggle for heriife, for the
bodies of mother and daughter were lying
close together, and the mother had seve
ral wounds on her arm, apparently in ,
`dieted by an ax - ,that was also close to the
bodies. The daughter's - throat and arm
were cut, evidently With a:- razor, whin
the rigid fingers of the mother still tightly
grasped when the tragedy was disbover
by the surviving daughter. All the doors
add windows were found barred on the
inside, thus of course leading to the con
cluaion that the dreadful dead had been
, committed:by some one inside.
Sn*Lart &ton:mos.—The Day
ton Empire tells a good story about the
petition introduced by the Reverend ,Mr.
'Gurley into Congress-for the expulsion of
Vallandigham. The fellow who go up
the petition, after getting twenty-.five or
thirty- names. on it, took it to be Mr. Val
landigham and offered it-to hint fOr
stating that he thoilight such a *petition,
with the names of Mr. V's most promi:,-
'neiit'enernies, would be worth it to him
politically. Mr. Vallandigharn, not feeling
disposed to encourage such a mode of
making - money, ordered the • fellow from
the premises. He then went to work,
gdt More names to it, and put it in the
hands of the Reverend Gurley, of Bull
Run notoriety.
KT &perverse inebriate, having fallen
under the festive board at a disgraceful
early hour, was strongly urged by his
friends to get out and take the air. "Ner,

But they, nevertheless took him quietly
up and set him out on the _door-stone. --
"rna out here," he said, by brute force.--
That way I'm out heie: but 'f yer think
'l'm going to take yer air, yer very much
