The Steamship Vanderbilt, at New

of the great prize fight between Hee

crowd which had been brought from
London in three special trains. We
have no space for the particulars of
the fight. Suffice it that after thirty
seven rounds, in most of which Hee
nan worsted his adversary, and when
it was manifest that Sayers was los
ing the battle, the.crowd and the po.
Bee rushed in and put an end to the
fight, the judges deciding the battle
drawn. The breaking .up ef the fight
has caused great ilt-feeling, and it is
unhesitatingly ascribed to that pur

Sayers, that he shmildnat his°. Mr.
Geo. Wilkes, editor, of Wilkes Spirit

wh9, had staked a large amount
against Heenan, speaks thus plainly
and, frankly in an extra of his paper,

The heroism displayed , by the Ben

wititrequently applauded during the
fight. Little, therefore, did the small
bands-`of Americans' 'seated around
that Ring expect tq See it broken up,
That it was so, will he:found too true,
and its.motives seentooplainly, when
our narrative of the contest is puremd.
We have no hesitationin pronouncing
John C. Heenan fairly entitled to the
Champion's Belt. He knocked down
his adversary thirteen times, and on
one occasion threw him like a frog.—

which, the combatants hugged each

I We acquit Tom Sayers of any for

partizans -bad resolved that he should

Sayerei holds "the belt." as the Chem-

office, while he. retains it, is bound_for
three years to accept all challenges,

the immense natural advantages Of
his challenger, • Sayers was bound at
once to accept it. -,
The instant the enclosure of - ropes

and the two Men, who there fop-the

and then stepped back to take along
and cardful survey each of the other.
Umpires for each man were appointed,
and a referee for both, and 'these pre

looked the most forinidable of the tribe
of gladiators who have ever entered the '

The contrast between the men 'was
then still more marked than before.—
Sayer is only abnut five feet eight; hie
chest is not broad, nor are his snits
powerful, and it is-only in the strong

anything to account for his tremendous

him, with his second behind him; and
said; 'Give me this fight?' -To this there
was no• reply. 'Give 'ine this fight, I.

was no reply, and the sponge was not
thrown up. Heenan then drew back
and slipped Sayer in the fahe with the
palm el his hand, knocking him down,
when outsiders rushed in and ended the
fight." -
The same passenger states that when
the English rushed ire to break up the
fight, Mr_Wilkes called upim the Amer
icans to see fair play, whereupon the
latter rushed in and cleared the ring of
the. English in a moment, striking from
the shoulder.
There are various Ilitriers afloat, a--
:nong others , that . Mbirissey, who had
heavy bets on Sayers, was the fire( man
to break through the ring., .
The friends of. Morrissey> are nciw
"few and far between." He:is denoun

and the majority claim that the crow 4
who rushed in upon Heenan, to prevent
his complete victory,-were guided, if
not in person, at leastin spirit, by Mor
rissey, who bet all.; he and about- a doe
en of his Mends were worth upon the
result. There is a hope expressed that
the "Boy" vrill finish -his work by whip

come, here to face all who'may see fit
to challenge him. His best friends,
