Napier and Sartiges, (the former Emhassador from Eng • land and the latter from France,) paid our town and county a visit last week. They were accom panied by Gen. Camtron, William H. Seward, of N. York, and Humphrey Marshall, of Kentucky. The ostensible object of their visit was to observe the country and people of a section in which so much British gold is invested. As such they were welcome, and were no doubt entertained in a manner deserving their station and condition. So much for that. When, however, their visit is made the occa sion for some political reflections—for linking it with"Proteption to }Arne Industry by Congress," "Industrial • Inapendenee," and the times that tried men's souls, the timo when the "Indepen dence of 17715 was sought and won," every one must see how inappropriate the connexion, espe °tally: so far as regards the first named distin guished personage. Would they not luttiv.ty t tmple under foot our Industry and our Indep - endence, than admire them ? It's poison applied to their lips under the guise of friemiship. That then cannot have been the object of their visit. What then really was the object, if it was not political. An old man, whose hairQ.l►re silvered, and Oxa l is famil iar with the tithes when England still openly hoped to win . ,baok the valuable American pos sessions else had lost, remarked to us, "I do not like the-fact of those representatives of the Queen reconnoitering us; their object cannot be a good one; eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, and we cannot be too jealous of our liberties." .We explained, that if any such foolish idea lingered in the minds of the nobility and royal family of England, they would be sure to cast them to the winds forever, upon receiving the "Report of Lord Napier upon the subject of winning back the lost diamond in the British . Crown, compiled from actual observation." , The question has also been asked; why are thee kords chaperoned through the land by Re publicans—two aspirants for Aq . yresideney.— Is the assiAlattee, of England necessary in 1860? Must her representative be mottled? I , . 'I3Y OUR LOCAL REPORTgit.
