BEAOTIFOL ExTaAeT—lielping a handsome
young lady out of a mod-puddle.
.. It is said that some of the mothers of the
eat are so kind hearted that they give their chil
dren chloroform prerions to whipping them.
j/i/r When you see a young man and woman
al
w king the street, leaning against each other
like a pair of badly yoked eXCII it is a pretty
good sign that they are bent on consolidation.
Goon Dia.—There is a rule in a debating 60-
olety that we have heard of, which le, 'that any
gentleman wishing to epeak more then half an
hour, shall have a room to himself.'
Adr• A Boston paper, giving a puff to a new
minister, sags prayer at the close of hip
sermon was is most eloquent that was ever ad
dressed to a Boston audience !"
PIII AND Ram—A man in Pautuoket recent
ly applied for insurance on a building in a vil
lage where there was no fire engine. In answer
to the enquiry :—"What are the facilities for ex
tinguishing fires?" be wrote, "It rains some
times."
jot- Young man, a private word. When you
go courting, find out as soon as possible whether
your affections are being planted more in a bundle
of dry goods and things generally than a pulsa
ting heart, hemmed in by warm ribs and all that.
Many a fellow has laid himself out for a full made
woman, and only found a very extensive assort
ment of cotton, whalebone and similar delusive
institutions. Just look over the goods before go
ing to the parson.
Vl..Doestieks went to a fashionable church in
a city to'bay a pew, but had too light a purse.—
He says;
"I very soon discovered that no 'deadheads'
were allowed on this line, and that if a man
couldn't pay he wasp:doff the train. After some
preliminary chat about the foreign: news, the state
of the markets, the hope of a revival of religion,
the rise in 'Erie,' the progress of the work of grace
and the price of pork, the lowly ones gathered
around, and the sale began. Those pews nearest
the pulpet, or perhaps I could say, those seats
next the locomotive, were sold first, they brought
seventy, eighty, and even, one hundred dollars
premium; the price was to be paid merely for a
choice of seats, in addition of the regular rent.'
instantly saw that I hadn't money enough to take
a firat-olaes cabin passage, but that there might
be a place for me somewhere. Jones bought a
ticket and Smith, and Tompkins; but there was
not a single seat that came down to my pile, and I
felt I mast give up the journey, or find a cheaper
conveyance, for I certanly couldn't afford to go to
heaven 'at 'such exorbitant rates."
HONORABLE CONDITIONS.—Many years
ago, in what is now a flourishing city in this
State, lived a stalwart blacksmith, fund of his
pipe 'and of his joke. Ile was also fond of his
blooming daugitter, whore many graces and
charms had ensnared the affections of a. suscepti
ble young printer. The couple, after a season of
mutual billing and cooing, "engaged" themselves,
and nothing but the consent of the young lady's
"parker prevented their union. To obtain this,
art interview was arranged, and Typo prepared a
little speesb to astonish and convince the old gen
tleman, who sat enjoying his pipe in perfect con
tent.
Typo dilated upon the fact of their long friend
ship, their mutual attachment, their hopes for the
fittire, and like topics, and taking the daughter
by the hand, said :
"I now, Mr, ask your permission to transplant
this lovely dower from its parent bed"—but his
"pheelinks" overcame him, be forgot the remain
der of his rhetoriea! flourish, blushed, stammered,
and finally wound by with—"from its parent bed
into my . own."
The father keenly relished, the discomfiture of
the suitor, and after removing his pipe and blow
ing cloud, replied:
"Well, young man, I don't know as I've any
objections, "presided you marry the gal firet."—

with peculiar spots appearing before. the eyes, Loss of
Sight, Wakefulness, Dyspepsia, Liver Disease. Eruptions
upon the Face, Pain In the Back and Head, Female Ir
regularities and all improper discharges from both sexes.
It matters not from what cause the disease originated,
however long standing or obstinate the case, RECOVERY
IN CERTAIN, and in a shorter time than a permanent cure
can be effected by any other treatment, even after the
disease has baffled the skill of eminent physicians and re
sisted all their means of cure. The medicines are pleas
ant without odor, causing no sickness and free from
mercury or balsam, During twenty years of practice,
hare rescued from the Jaws of Death many thousands,
who, in the last stages of the above-mentioned diseases.
bad been given up to die by their physicians, whirls war
rants me in promising to the afflicted, who may place
themselves under my care, a perfect and most speedy
cure. Secret Diseases are the greatest enemies to health,
as they are the first cause of Consemption, Scrofula and
many other diseases, and should bea terror to the .hu
man family. As a permanent cure is scarcely eyes ef
fected, a majority of the cases falling into the bands of
incompetent persons, , who not only. tail to cure the dia.,
eases but ruin the constitution, filling the sYstiniC;xvith
mercury, which, with the disease, hasteretli;"erifferer.
into a rapid Consumption.
But should the disease and the treatment not cause
death speedily and the victim marries; the disease if en:
tailed upon the Children, who are porn with feeble rem
stitutions, and the current of life corrupted by a virus
which betrays itself in Scrofula, 'fetter, Ulcers, Erup
tions and other affections of the Skin, Eyes, Throat and
Lungs, entailing upon them a brief existence of suffer
ing and consigning them to an early grave.
SELF ABUSE is another fermidableenemy to health,
for nothing else in the, dreaffeatalogue of human disea
ses causes so destnietlie a drain urion'the sylitem;
ing its thousands of victims through-a few years of suf
fering down to an untimely grave. It destroys the Ner
vous System, rapidly wastes away the energies of life,
causes mental derangement, prevents the proper devel
opment of the system.. disqualifies for - marrirge, society,,
business, and all earthly happiness, and leaves the suf
ferer wrecked in body or mind, predisposed to Consump
tion and a train of evils more to be dreaded than death
itself. With the fullest confidence I assure the unforta
- nate victims
of Self Abuse that a permanent and speedy
cure can be effected, and with the abandonment of -ruin
ous practices my patients can be restored to robust, vig
orous health.
The afflicted aro cautioned against the use of Patent
bledkines, for there are PO many ingenious snores in the
columns of the public prints to catch and rob the unwary,
sufferers, that millions have their constitutions ruined
by the vile compounds of quack doctors, or the equally
poisonous nostrums vended as "Patent Medicines."
.1
have carefully analyzed many of the so-culled Patent
Medicines. and tied that nearly all of them contain Cor

mine the disease, dls.ables thesystem ibr life.
Three-fourths of the patent nostrums now in use are

understand even the alphabet of the Alsrmua • blames,
and are equally as destitute of any knowledge of the hu
