The question of Water Works will now he
df -tinted again.
Tbe old story of the man carrying bed
clothes down stairs and throwing the looking-glass
out of the winJow was revived on
(Sunday evening.
It was just, four weeks lust Sunday morn
ing since the Clearfield Fire Brick Works
were burned.
There were no service In any of tho
hurt-lies lost Hunday evening.
Tbe large attendance at Uobinaon's ahow
on Monday was gratifying to our people, And
we II -deserved by the showmen.
Wm. 1). Bigler and one of the showmen ,
received severe cuts on the head by fulling
buckets. Others wero slightly Injured, but
no one seriously.
After all, it was a fortunate escape. Had
the Khnw House or Mansion House stables
taken fire, the destruction of property would
hftve been terrible to behold.
Many of tbe ladies willingly took their
place tn the line and pawed buckets, aiding
efficiently an tbe men. Men who stand
buck and look on while women are working)
as ther done there are no men at all. I
We think it was a mistake to distribnt "fire
water" at the time of a fire. The men would
lie a great deal lwtter off without it, and will
not become helpless and demoralized. "
The fire was first discovered hy one of the
musicians of Itobinson's ahow, who saw smoke
issuing from ere vices in the plastering over
head. Could they have hod access to it, it is
thought that thirty bnckets of water would
have saved the building.
Home very silly and untruthful storiet. were
started on Hunday evening.
A portion of the walls of the Hbaw If nunc
fell on Monday, a .mrtion was pushed down,
nnd the eastern wall intact is still standing.
The fire was the only theme of conversa
tion on our streets, nnd In fVt all aliout town,
last Hunday evening. And aomo haven't
quit talking almut it yet.
While John Robinson's show was making a
street ponule In a town in Illinois two years
ago. a fire broke out and destroyed the entire
square in the business part of the town. The
parade stopped and all hamia took part in
saving tbe property and fighting the fire.
Home of their horses came near being burned
up, some of them got frightened and ran off,
breaking the wagons, while many of the
wardroliea were destroyed.
