Sir, any two of our eitiiena would hav taken
the chain and carried it fur th regalar lee of $2,
tbu saving $16 to tbe County Treasury ; and the
work would bare bean done all th same and
many hard thoughts saved. W look 00 it a In
sulting to our intclligene. Two hundred and
sixty taxpayers in Chest towaship, and none fit
to lay out half a mile of road, ia tb estimation
at tha ennolotla nower. aelah.
We have beea noticing for aom time past that
Clearfield la represented on quit a number of
vlewa road 1, lines, bridge, el. It is folly to
send strangers to lay out roads. It always ends
in trouble, delays and great eipettse. If thoeill
aeoa asking for those view do not know the
ground on wbicn they want tnem iaia, 1 am satis
fled tbet man from a distance know leas. Some
body must quit work to go along with them, or
get no road. If you pay a little attention to thia
matter, you can very easily e Ihtt thia little
leak In one year will take quite a sum out of tbe
Treasury unnecessarily. 1 do hop tht star
road businas may end right aow. If wa aro all
compelled to pay taxes, wo are entitled to a chare
of the little favor.
On word, and I am done. As to ihe old gen
tlemen appointed by the Court to ley out our half
mile of road, 1 nav nomine: to aay. amj
among na to discbarg the duty of their appoint
ment. They don so, nnd left quietly and peace
fully. There is too much Christ unity in our com
position to hold the least enmity against them.
The fault doe not II with them, but with the
1 hope this little note may ho the means ef
awakening up the appointing power to Its duty.
1 am inclined to loox on it as an werPigm ,
if continued, yon will bear It thunderedail around.
