Swede miners had collected together in a place
of (Ues'lonable character, whvn three fellows,
Qeorge Kvaos, a Weltfcman, and Ueorge Hill, an
Knglishman, and one other man, whose name
we did not learn, came to the house Indicated
and enticed two of the 3wode out to a secluded

THE MURDER OF MAR KS, THE
PEDDLER.
(a last week's Issue of tho Indiana Pa.) Demo.
oral we find the particulars of a murder commit
ted some time ago, but which has onty recent ty
been promulgated, and ia which Is Implicated
Christian Bweltier, a former resident of Clearfield
borough. Tho ease was up before tbo Uraad
Jury at Indiana last week, but was continued un
til September Term, by which time It is expected
that more reliable evidence can be obtained.
Tbo fratocmf refer to the affair aa follows :
" Four youag men are at present Incarcerated In
the Indian county Jail on Ibe Serious charge of
murder. Over one year ago a peddler named
Markf, who usually traveled through tha aorth
ern and eastern portions of Indiana county, was
missiug. Afterward on the reported confession
of one of the parties, residing in the neighbor
hood of lb Cherry! ree, were instrumental In
causing bis death, for the purpose of robbery.
Whether the reported killing wa consummated
lo this county -or not is not known -or whether
tbo man wa killed or not la a mystery. No body
has been found, and nothing lo Implicate three
men but the maud It a confession of a drunken
man, Tbo parties arrested are C. Sweltsor, of
Chest Hprlagf, Cambria oounty, a marrlod man ;
Kd. Boriug,a matried man ; Kmraclt Boring and
Charles Boring, the latter three of Montgomery
township, Indiana oounty.
" The 'aleat atory told lo regard to Maika, the
misting peddler of Altoona, ii highly sensational,
aa follows : A man from Indiana county state
that Sweitser, now In the Indiana Jail, La mad
a confession, the result of vhlch Is that throe
brother named Boring hav been arrested and
are now tn jail at Indiana, charged with Iba mur
der of Ihe peddler Marks, Front the confession
it appears that lb three Borings and Bweitier
were la a Held cutting oats, and two of Ibem
want out and seised the peddler, bound and
gagged him, aad, after taking his good, they
left him la tho school houia, and at night the
four aieo weat there and took the peddler out
into the wood, where they shot and killed him,
and tbea procured a lot ot brush-wood, aad after
burled the tones. It Is said that oa af the
prison ere hal agreed to oonduot theofner to ibe
cen of the tragedy.
"Oa very reliable authority we ar informed
that th Investigation Will develop the following
fact : That the peddler, Mark, eras last seea at
Derringer's store, In what is known s I'nlontown,
a few miles from the Cecrrytree. At this hamlet
tha road from Cook pert crease the road running
from Indiana via Pine Flat, and continue oa
to German's milt, on the Susquehanna river, the
Pine Flat road leading In a aorthatdlreioa to
the Cherry tree. Oa Ibe road to tlarman's mill
lived, last Summer, Christ Sweitser, one of the
men under arrest, aad Ihe Berlag brother were
bis near neighbors. Beyond Rwelttar's about one
half mile Ihere lived a man named Connor, with
whom the peddler Mark wa la the habit of
stopplog when la that neighborhood. When
last seen alive Marks left Drrlager's, saying
O at he wa gotag la atop at Mr. Coaoor's, aad
in going te Connor' he would hare t pas th
house of Sweitser, the Boring brothers living
soma distance from (he road. Whatever became

LETTER FROM MORRIS TOWN

Mb. Eoitob i 1 have juit noticed a letter from

of these young men are very ordinary looking

he has no doubt tbat his mission Is that of a
public writer. While they are ignorant ef the
true meaning and real importance of American
hitturv. be oomnrehends it entirely i and if he
could ouly acquire tbe knack uf letter writing, be
could enlighten the darkaeta surrounding thui r

beea so full ot smarter and bettor young men
tbau yourself that their feet stuck out of the
dormer windows; and when they dial the old

Know a much as yon can, without blowing the

don't datsla people with it and imagine that a

need for young men but no greater need than
th young men have of it. 1 Tour clothes fit you
belter than your father's fit him : they oost more

"I'a I" Young men are useful, and they are orna

Don't be afraid your merit will not be dlcovered.
People all over tbc world are bunting for you.
A diamond isn't so easily found as a quarts peb

Tbat "Observer" did uot mention our grand

and have a glorious time in general. I cltlm
that we have the beet dubeters iu Pennsylvania.
Tbie don t look very likely, but if you don't be
