It is hardly possible lor it to bs reached this week now, and as Monday next is the last day upon whioh the Governor oould issue his writ for a special elec tion on the 17th of February, the peo ple of the district will be put to the trouble and expenso of an election for the sole purpose of electing a Congress man. Tbe counsel of ex Governor Cur tin have earnestly pressed a decision of the oase in time for an election to be held at the regular Spring election, which would impose no expense or in convenience on the people; but Mr. Yooum's counsel have resorted to every expedient for delay, and, thro' the minority of the Committee, have demanded such delay as will throw needloss cost and loss of time upon tbo voters of the district It has boon evi dent for a month past that Mr. Yocum cannot retain his seat. There ia no doubt, however, tbat rather than loso that power they would not hesitate to change the gov ernment to a monarchy if they could be the controlling power. Tbe Ebensburg Freeman gets at it in this way: "Tho Pittsburgh -Poif in sists tbat although the delegates from this county to tho Democratic State Convention were instructed for linn oock, the pooplo of the county, and certainly one of the delegates, are for Tilden. It is barely possible tbat the Pott in its blind devotion to Mr. Tilden, knows more about the weight of Dem ocratic sentiment in Cambria than tbe Democrats of the county themselves do. There are a good many newspa per editors in this State wbo think they know all about the preferences oi tbe Democracy in any given county for the Presidency, but they really don't know anything more about them than they do about the Choctaw lan guage. This paper, for several good and sufficient reasons, is tor Horatio Seymour, but wo do not claim that the Democracy of tbe county aro for him. They may be for Tildon, but no living man can speak knowingly on tbe subject ; or tboy may prefer Hun cock, or Bayard, or Thurman, or Hendricks. One of thedolcgatos, Mr. David Humphreys, may be a Tilden man, as the Post nvors, and it would be a strange thing if he, like evory othor Democrat, had no preference among tbo different candidatos. But if Mr. Humphreys was not Instructed. ho has too much political experience to espouse tho cause of Tilden, or tbat of any other man, in tbe State Con vention, unless be believed that his nomination was tho boat and strongost that could be made. We can suy tho same thing, we think, fur Mr. John Somervillo, the other delegate. Nei ther of them will rush to a conclusion ithout duo consideration." Cameron's Way. A Washington telegram to the Philadelphia Times says : The Grant men hero aro vory sure that tboy can carry tho Pennsyl vania delegation when they wknt it. Ono of them said to day that it made no difference what instructions tbe county committees might givo thodelo gatos to the State Convention. When Cameron got to llarrisburg tbat would all be settled. Instructions would be given thoro, and no other instructions would be binding. Tbe position of the Grant mon is this: After looking ovor tbe field tboy will put Grant in nomination if he can be chosen on tho first ballot, otherwise they have deter mined not to present his name at all. They are euro tbat bo can not stand a close and bard fight, but if nominated at all must bo nominated with a rush. In short, his nomination must bo the natural end of the enthusiustic boom in which the movemont was started. It may be that tho result of tbe Penn sylvania State Convention will sottlo his candidacy, but Cumoron and bis friends hero say tbat if it does it will be becauso tbey will permit it. Thoy say thoy aro sura of Pennsylvania if they want it, but that they do not want it if thoir favorite's nomination on the first ballot is out of tbe ques tion. Boynton, the Washington cor respondent of the Cincinnati Gazette, has brought a suit for alunder against General Sherman. This case is at tracting widespread attention. The Philadelphia Times, in alluding to tbe case, remarks : "Everybody will admire tbo pluck, to say nothing ot the dignified and businoss liko manner in which General Boynton goes to work to vindicate bis cbaractor against tbe aspersions ot U moral Sbrrman. It was in bis power to have brought tbe General of the Army to tbeliar ot a Polioe Court to answer tor toe alleged slander, but with some consideration for General Sherman's high position if not for tbe man he has resisted this temptation, which a small and revengeful mind would bavo eagorly embraced. It is a most unfortunate affair, but tbe pro priety of General Boynton'a course cannot be questioned, if Gon. Sher man were a man of cooler bead and more gonorous impulses we should ex pcot him to retract the harsh and un deserved words spoken in the heat of temper, for he cannot really bolieve that General Boynton is a dishonora ble man. But General Shorman is a person of implicablo hatred as well as of ungovernable temper, and is not likely to lot discretion wait upon pre judice. Howover the mattor may end he is likely to draw from it with some mortiffcation tbe lesson that in this country even a general of the army must respect the rights of other pooplo to criticise his words and acts."
