assembled at tbe St. Cbarle Hotel, where lb-y
partook of an elegant cupper, gotten up in Inim
itable style by tho landlady, Mr. McLaughlin.
Tb supper hour passed off pleasantly and agree
ably to all, and tbe hunters hope for many annua I
returns of the " happy bunting day."

AN AtiKO CITIZEN.
In the death of Henry BroeberhorT, whlofa oc
curred on Sunday, .the Atb Instant, aged nearly
86 years, DeMefonte loses It wealthiest and one
of its oldest cltiiena.
Aocording to the KWaatfin, Mr. B rook erb off
was bom on the 1 1 lb of June. 17f4, at Ober Cas
tle, opposite Duiieldorf, In the Province of Alsa
tia, or Alsace, on the Rhine. He went to school
at Duiteldotf until he was 10 years of age, after
which he attended a omrnercUl college at Ait-la-Cbapelle,
and gradua:ed in one year, being then
17 years old. II served la a clerical capacity In
tbe army of the grant Napoleon until tbe disas
trous battle of Waterloo, on which the mighty
fortune of the Emperor war overthrown. In
Ibis battla Mr. Brockerboff fillid the position of
Roll officer. After tbe fall of Napoleon, young
Brockerboff sailed for tbe United State, and com
menced business In Philadelphia as a pedller.
From there be went to MoKoe's Falls, In Union
county, where be engaged In the mercantile busi
ness, and arrived In Bellefonte about 1H25. There
be opened a store In a building that stood whore
German's Hotel now stands, and be bad a part
ner by tbe name of Kechlcr. Thin partnership
was afterwards dissolved, and Mr. Brocks rhoff re
moved bis goods to a roota In the Pennsylvania
Home hotel, where he finally purchased, after
ward adding tho brick blocks known ns the
Brockerhoff Row, which, together with the hotel,
was destroyed by tbe great fire in February, 16(15,
After this he removed lb remnant of his goods
to the stone building that stood where Joseph's
store now Is, and took in John Awl as a partner.
Thi partnership was Boon dissolved, and Mr,
Brockerboff retired from actlre business life. In
1849, tbe lamented deceased was married on tbe
14th of Nor em Her lo Miss Margaret Mullen,
daughter of Felli Mullen, Eq., who survives him.
There are four living children by this marriage.
Mr. Brookarhoff was personally known to many
of our readers, who bee me acquainted with him
during his long, actlre business life.

Destructive Fire. On Saturday
afternoon last, tbe largo frame dwelling bouse
and frame barn on the farm of Mr. Wilson Hoover,
near Lin's fording, In Bogga township, were
entirely consumed by Are. About half past 4
'clock la the aftcrnonn, Mrs. Hoover built a
wood Are in tb cooking stove, and soon there-
fter flame were discovered in the roof. An
effort was at onoe marie lo check them, but tbe
roof being very dry and a strong wind blowing at
the time, the effort was unsuccessful, and soon
the dwelling was In ruins. Nearly everything In
the bouse ws saved two pair of bedsteads and
some things that were In the garret and cellar ex
cepted. While the (Ire at tho boos was in progress,
the wind carried soma burning cinder to tbe
era, about twenty fire or thirty rods away, and
befre the persons present could realli the fact
was enveloped in fiatnos. Nothing wa saved
from tho barn except the stock. About 126 burb
la of wheat, 80 or 90 huiheli of buckwheat, 10
tons of hay, 600 doien sheave of oats, from f0
to 40 bushel of potatoes, nearly all tho farming
utensils, a sleieb, tereral setts of harness, and
everything stored in the bars was a com pie tt loss,
Mr. Hoover' entire loss will aggregate about
1,500, with an insurance of $1,600 oa tbe bouse,
When tbe fire oommesced, Mr. Hoover wa away
from home, and knew nothing of the disaster on
be came in eight of the ruin. His feelings
can ho imagined, but not described

manager, and his Interesting family of trained
dogs and monkeys, deserv special mention, and
their ludicrous antics brought forth laughter and
applause from young and old. In fact, the per
formances of Mr. Cobb and bis educated aniinais
constitute good show alone and worih the price
of admission to the Messrs. Sells' entire tf nega
tion to see. There were many other attractions
tbut deserve special notice, but we hare not the
space her lo enumerate and do them justice.
There was a large number of people to attendanoe
both In tbe ifternnoon snd avenlug, and all who

show, rendering satisfaction In every particular.

Man Killed. Mr. William Wall, an
old and respected cttisea of Penn township, waa
killed by his horse running away, on Wednesday,
tbe 9;h lost. Mr. Wall was driving along the
road, between Pcnnvillo and Curwensville, when
his borsc became unmamigeble and ran away, up
setting tb buggy and rolling It down an embank
ment aome tight or ten feet high. Mr, W. wa
thrown out, and the borae fa ling opon bim, in
jured him so budly that he died scron after the
accident. The dt ceased was about 70 years of
age, and the father of a large family. His uo-
timely drain will be regretted by bis many friend
and acquaintance in tbi county.

For about two years, at times, I have
