Dowxstic TnUTiis. Tho editor of
tbo PittBburg Telegraph, ono of tho Rad
ical organs of that City, in his issue of
Friday, slates tho case fairly to his par
ty friends in this way: M.S. Quay bas
been finally pensioned barring that
tho Sonato has yot to confirm bis nom
inationlor bis valuable services to tbo
Stalo ring. Gov. Hartranft yesterday
having appointed him Rocorderof Phil
adelphia, at a salary varying from MO,-
000 to $50,000, and ton yoars' term of
office. We ace no good reason why
Iho Legislature should not pension a
a few spavined hacks from the East on
Allegheny county. Thoy have juBt as
much right to deprive tho voters of one
county of Iho right to elect officials, as
the voters of another county. Wo lako
this occasion to record tho prediction
that tho Republican party will sco the
day when they will rogrot the pension
ing of worn out politicians. Tho timo
will como when a Democratic Legisla
ture will follow tho Republican exam
ple and thrust Democratic officials on
Republican communities. A Republi
can Legislature in Ohio set the example
of governing Democratic cities with ap
pointive Republican Commissions, and
tho present Democratic Legislature is
carrying out tho idea by putting Dem
ocrats wherever tho slightest opportu
nity offers. It will lie tho case in Penn
sylvania as soon as the Democrats got
control of tbo Legislature, and it would
not Btirpriso us to see thorn install Dom
ocruts in the principal offices in Alle
gheny and other Republican counties
under tho very convenient prinoipla of
the Quay Recorder bill.
The Peeling and Skjsiuno Lien.
Tho Rcnova Record says : "Tbo bill in
troduced in tho early part ot the ses
sion to securo lumbermen and laborers
a lien for tboir work, was .defeated, it
will be remombored, on account of its
too rigid provisions. Anothor bill bas
boen substituted by Mr. Quigley which
removes the main objections and still
secures the laborers' pay. Undor tbo
now bill all wages due for cutting, peel
ing, skidding, hauling, driving, railing,
and running of saw logs, square timber
or railroad ties shall bo a lien for six
months upon such logs, etc., and shall
bo paid for beforo removal. This bill
will bo pressed for final passage by Mr.
(Juigloy, and wo learn it is vory likely
to roach the Senate in timo ior its ac
tion." A more oppressive and foolish
measure was novcr introduced In a
Legislative body. Its passago would
pin every laboring man to the wall. If
this bill bocomos a law no operator
would employ a laborer until he would
sign his rights away under this act.
The bill is gotten up in tbe interest of
a few lumber Sbylocks about Lock
Havon, who neither employ men or
manufacture lumber tho middle men.
Settled bt a Caucus. The Radical
members of the House of Representa
tives, at Harrisburg, held a caucus on
Tuesday night of last week for tho pur
pose of agreeing upon a day tor the
final adjournment of the Legislature.
After nearly thrco hours' discussion a
molion to Bupport a resolution to ad
journ on the 24 lb of May was carried
by a voto 50 yeas to 39 nays. This
will prolong tbe session until very near
tbo last day upon which our law mak
ers can constitutionally draw pay for
their invaluablo services ; and proves
that tho Republican majority care much
more about their per diem than thoy do
abont attending to tho intoresla of tboir
constituents. Wore it not for the limi
tation set by tho Constitution, they
would undoubtedly sit permanently
or until their successors are clocted and
forco them lo vacate the seats they
havo in no way honored.
In Trouble. The SoliuBgrove
77m'puts it in this way : "The Repub
lican politicians are in a dreadful way
about Sonator Dill. They havo al
ready set np such an earnost fight
against him as If bo already woro nom
inated for governor. They anticipate
bis nomination, and are vainly striving
to defeat it And all tho Radical pa
pers havo been able so far to show up,
amounts absolutely to nothing. Thoy
cry "corporation candidate." Yot we
fool quite certain that any corporation
could bny more than one half of those
vory follows for a vory small sum. Tho
very tact that tbe Radicals are fighting
him in advance of his nomination, ia
one of the best signs in favor of hi
nomination."
A Good I'Aia.-The Democrats of
Adams county have Instructed their
delegates to vote for Hon. A. II. Dill,
of Union county, for Governor, and
"Unole Jake" Zieglor, of Bntler coun
ty, for Lieutenant Governor. This Is
a strong loam and we shall not fllo a
ingle exception, if it wins ia May

The Verdant Sister. Miss Cathe
rine ., sister of Henry Ward Bcochcr,
aged (i7 yoars, waxos wroth on account
of the charges Mrs. Klizabeth Tilton
makes against her brolbor, and in a
card to tho Now York Tribune speaks
of his "purity and lovo of truth" whon

miro Miss Bcecher's fidelity to bcr

who, nevertheless, will always believe
that, whatever Henry Watd may have

saint as a man. And in this connection,

Justice at Last. Tho Pittsburg

of the Union Pacific lobbyists at Wash
ington says: A cheering gleam of light

of lobbyists skilled in applying that
power, and on tho other sido only tho
equitablo claim of tho United States to

"Ring" reeled out of the Senate cham

It was a glorious victory.
Tiie Trite Policy. Tho Philadel
pbia Record says: M. Loon Chottcau,
tbo distinguished Frenchman, who is
now in this city, has came to this coun
try on a mission of civilization. His
object is to promote profilalilo' inter
course between thiscountry and France
by pulling down tho restrictive, barri
ers in tho shape ot tariff legislation
which deface the statute books ot both
countries. It is bis desire to procure
for the pcoplo of the United States the
right to buy and soil in Franco upon
as fair terms as aro afforded to other
nations ; and to obtain a liko conces
sion on the part of our government
Trade is now mado impossible by offen

of non-intercourse. Such a policy ill

A Dead Beat. General Burosido,
ono of tho military failures of tho lato
war, and authorof the celebrated Burn-

no nogroos and very few statesmen
This Radical Choctaw, dosirous of be
ing the author of something more than
whiskors, introduced a bill in tbo Son-
ate compelling recruiting army officers
to enlist Africans as well as Caucasians.
But the Radical Sonato and the whole
army sat right down on him, and flat
tened him out so effectually that there
is nothing left of him but his whiskers.
But sovontoon out of the scvonty-six
Senators voted for the measure.
The Man. Sonator Sargont, of Cal
ifornia, is a vory roliablo personage
in hia way. Whon his party has
a particularly moan job to do,
its oyoa are at once turned toward
