Department faai established a new office at Sandy
Ridge, on the Tyrone A Clearfield railroad, and
W. R. Miller haa been appointed Postmaster.
Discharged. Over throo hundred
employe! were discharged from the llarriaburg
Car Shops last week. Tho Company was ecus
xtelled to adopt this oourse because of the scarcity
of work.
Postmaster Gaulin receives each
evening the New York daily papers. This is
pretty quick work. Papers printed in Nework
city in the morning oan be read by the people of
Clearfield in the evening.
The Clinton Democrat, ot font week,
says: "The last heard from Judge Mayer and
family by bis friends here was from Naples. lie
was en route for Rome, where be doubtless is now,
and where he will spend several weeks.
Mr. John L. Kragle nnnouncos by

In Irwin township, who wittied to secure immu
nity from lightning, gave llrooks a Job of Ironing
his barn, the price of which was to he twenty,
three dullars. After the work was finished, tho
farmer offered to pay Brooks Iho monoy, but
llrooks was In no hurrr for oaih. He am,!.! Mr.
Hie farmer all the time he wanted, and therefore
produced what ho called a oontract la duplicate.
The fanner signed one of the nsnera anil li

gave it lo the farmer. 'Iho paper llrooks kept
was a judgment no!o what the farmer held wal
a simple contract. And now for the sequel :
"Last week a (rsinlusi writ from Washington
oounty, Issued by llrooks against our Irwin town,
ship fannor, was received by Sheriff Mark. The
writ calls for $12:1 one hundred dollars more
than the price of the lightning rods, as agreed to

Am Open Question. The Judicial
Apportionment bill has been signed by the Gov
ernor. Tbe roten of the Twenty-fifth District,
oomposcd of tho counties of Centre, Clearfield and
Clinton, are required to vote for an additional
Law Judge at the general election next Njvember.
Now, where is the man. This is a question for
tbe lawyers first, and thoo for the people.
Junk Court. It has at loncth been
ecttled that we are to have a two weeks oourt,
-commencing on Monday, tbe first day of June.
As tbe Judicial Apportionment bill, passed by
the Legislature, assigns us an additional Law
Judge, we presume Uov. Ilartranft will lend us
one to preside in the abaence of Judge Mayer,
wbc is still in Europe, and further off than when
last beard from.
