The Normal Over. On the 5th of

Wearer, of Centre county, and J. P. McKendrlck,
of Curweniville. The school closed on the 25th
instant, having continued twelve weeki, and if
discipline, study and labor an worth anything,
we have no doubt the remits flowing from this
term will do muoh future good. Wc understand
that a literary aoelety wet organised at the open

ings wen well attended by pnpilt and iltlsent
during the whom term. Betweea eighty-lire and
ninety pupilt wen In attendance, and all took a
lirely Interest in the excrclsec. A pic nie waa in
dulged in on the 19th, attended by all the pupils
and a large pojtlon of tho cltisene, which all
aeemed to enjoy hugely. Besides the good things
which wen to bo found on tba table, a number of
excellent speeches were Indulged In, to the delight
of all present.
Narrow Escape. The Osocola lie

The borough of llouttdale wat thrown Into
wild state of excitement on Thursday last, by the
announcement that throe children wen drowning.
Prom what we could learn, It appean that three
cbildnn wen attempting to cross the dam e the
logs, a bob and daughter of Mr. David Porting
and a daughter of Mr, 0. Hanet. They were res
cued after great difficulty from their watery post,
tlon. Too muoh thanka cannot be awarded to
thoee who, at the risk of their Uvea, succeeded In
restoring to the frantic parents their hired ones.
The alarm wat given by an old maa named Win
Davis, who pushed boards to tba children, until
the arrival of John Kinney, Michael furlong,
Martin Lanagau and Robert White, who soon bad
the children on frrajlrna, to the great delight of
the anxlout mothere. Parents should caution
their children against the practice of crowing on
logs. Only a day after, a miner oame near being
drowned by the same fooliib experiment.
