Casualtik.. -As usual tho Into 4th
bai yielded a plentiful harvest or eainaltlei and
acoldcnti all over the country. Although we hid
no celebration In or hear our borough, we lisve
not escaped accidents. The moat serious seems
lo be that of Mr". Newton Bead, who was thrown
out of a buggy by the horse taking fright near
Ooodfellow'i bridge. Sho was aerlouily injured,
but Is now ilowly Improving and will recover. '
A little ion of Jlr. Cowdrick bad bit foot

Mrs. Llddle'i marble yard, where be and some
other boyi were playing. '.
Mr. R. N. Shaw bid a $210 carriage broken to
Binder! by bit team running away, some awkward
follow having allowed the Lories to go wtlhout a
driver. ' '
Two gentlemen, who were running home at full
speed, trying to esoapo the rain storm, the night
provlous, collided on Second street, their heads
meeting, lending otic to the right and the other
to the left on the pavement. Two pain of black
eyei were the remit.
The last, though not the leant, accident, when
viewed financially, was that whlob betel Mr.
Southard. During the thunder storm on the
evening of the 4th, the lightning struck his ihop,
knocking down the flue, and the electricity, pass
ing Into the stable adjoining, killed hla $200
horse. The buildings resolved very little Injury
the Ore being extinguished before any datnago

the tiino. This Is a heavy loss to '-Al. " hut will

ohinci as usual.
The lightning very soon after itruck a plno
tree on eeroctory hill, and tho shock was very
sensibly felt by many of our citlicns residing in
mo eastern portiou of the borough.
Why Not f The Countv Commis
sioner! and the eltlseni of Curweusville ind vl-
oinity having resolved to build an iron bridge
across the rircr at that place, why not take down
the wootlea one and remove it np so the pien at
llilcs r The span at this place is only 100 feot,
while the one at Curwonevlile is 100, thus leaving
.10 feet t bridge for waste. We are no brldire
builder, but wo have no doubt that the Curweni-
ville structure can be taken down nnd placed on
the Eloom-llile plen for lest than $1,000. And
if the citlicnn residing in that vieiuity move at
once in thii matter, a very cheap free bridge ean
be secured to them, as we have no doubt the
Commissioner! will at least contribute half of the
expense.
All the frame work of the bridge li in good or
der, and nothing but a new roof nnd weather-
boarding would be needed. Besides, the piers
are thcro, and It will cost lesi to transport the old
bridge than the timbers for a new structure. The
false works used to tako down the bridge oan be
used to put it up again. Why not give somebody
a job to take down the old itmcturo and put It
up on the Illoom-llile piers? Never again will
so raro an opportunity be offered to the citiiens
of Pike township to get a cheap bridge. Appoint
a committoo at once and go to work, and In three
months tha river will be spanned with another
bridge.

Fourth op July Celebration at
WooiLAn. The proprietor! and employes of
the "Woodland Fire Brick Company" bavo cre
ated a very cordial feoling amongst their neigh,
bors and friends, by tbc graceful hospitality ex
hibited at their Fourth of July aeiebration. The
company, with a spirit worthy of imitation by the
citiseni of our own town, had erected a large
platform in a beautiful grovo in the vicinity, and
several excellent musicians being in attendance,
the dancing' was kept lp with spirit until 12
o clock, uUf when dlbocr was announcod, aftcreWllers' Hardware, Farmers' Hardware, Builders'
which the visitors were addressed by Frank
Fielding, Ksq., of Clearfield, and Messrs. Boggs,
general mansgf-r, and Korris, foreman for the Co.
Tho remarks of these genii men wore well timed.
If any of our friends wish to spend a pleasant
day, we wonld advise thcin to try Woodland, and
if they happen to meet Jlr. Geo. Albert, Mr.
Boggs, Mr. Norris, Mr. McN'ash, Mr. McVeigh,
or Mr. Reed, anti hare the privilege of their so
ciety during their visit, wo are confident they
will not regret it, and will look forward with
pleasure for an opportunity to return the hospi
tality we know from experience these gentlemen
will so eordiallv extend to thctn.
Tho racos at tho OmcooIii Park, on
tho Fourth of July, brought together probably
the largost crowd of people that ever honored that
live littlo tewn with their presence. Molt every
part of tho State was represented, and a number
of persons from New York and other places of
equal note helped to swell tho crowd, (juitt a
nurubor of horses competed for the different
purses, but the laurels were earriod off principally
by Osceola and Brookville horses. Osceola Is one
Of the liveliest towns on the mountains, and for
energy, cleverness and downright gnshuadatire-
ness lue people can I be b?at anywhere.
