the new schools formed for the first time the pres
ent session. In ordor to ensure success, the mis
slonary thrle visited the neighborhood, traveling
sixty-six miles from the nearest point on the rail
road. Tht school bouse Is too small to accomodate
th attendance at this school. Other new schools
organised this season, In point of conduct and In
terest, will favorably compare with many other
older schools.
It forms a part of onr work to aid In tbe sup
port and Improvement of existing schools, which,
in many eases, Is as necessary as the planting of
new ones. In a word, the grand object is a diffu
slon of Scripture knowledge among tbe people, old
and young, with a view to their eternal salvation.
Again I wish to express my grateful obligations
to ministers of (he gospel aud other christian
workers, whose co-operation has largely oontrib
uted to tbe aoceaa of what we bar undertaken
in behalf of the youth In Central Pennsylvania.

derm Coat and Improvement Company held a
meeting In "Ilrlsbin's Hall," at Huutsdale, on the
10th lost.
On motion, Win. 8. Dickey, Esq., of (Jlen Hope,
was called to tht chair, and Ueo. M. Brill in, of
Osceola, waa appointed Secretary.
Ir. Hoots said that this meeting had been
oallcd for tht purpose of arranging for a general
meeting of all concerned In the enterprise, so that
a re-organisation might be effected. The terms
of the present officers bad expired, but, by a pro
vision of tbe Corn puny, the present officers held
over until tlivlr successor wore elected. He
hoped that aa early day might be appointed for
said election, and that all who were concerned 1n
the extension of the Branch R. U. to Uien Hope
and beyond, would attend the meeting, and give
it all t't sunouragement they oould.
On motion, it was then

Coal and Improvement Company" call a meeting
of the Hloetiolde and Subscribers of said "Ma
dera Coal and .'mprovumcnt Company," to be held
la Hriibln's Hall, in Borough ol Huutsdale, Clear

next, and make all other arrangements for the
fulheranoe of tht same, which he might deem

missioners of that county, directing them to erect
a bridge across the river at Ncwtun Hamilton.
This order they neglected to bey, and an attach
ment for contempt wu issued against thom, re-
turnabl la Philadelphia. Last week they were
produced In Court by th Sheriff of Mifflin, and
failing to justify their conduct were each Hard
$600, being allowed until October 1st In which to
pay it or show good cause why it should be remit
ted, the Chief Justice remarking that, as they were
doubtless considered as good oltisens, they won Id

implicit obedience to the law than by seeking all

strength of this assurance we may reasonably ex
pect soon to receive mail matter on the day that it

commodation to business men and all who wi.h to
receive daily papers from the metropolis on the
day of Issue. Mr. Daley has exhibited a desire to
accommodate tbe public by thus assuming duties
