I're lung the byo.ni both ilow and quiuk,

And twice, when Deaoon Tubbi wu lick,

And now, their bold new-fangled wayi

And I, right in my Utter dayi,
An fairlj orowded out. .
To-dnr the preacher, good old dear,
With It-art all in hie eye,
' Jt,ad--"I can read my title clear 1

But whoa that eboir got up to ilng, '"

Borne worldly ehapa were ttandln' near,
And when I eccd them grin,
''I bid farewell toerery fuar,"
And boldly waded in.
I thought I'd ehane their tune along,
And tried with all my might;
But though my rolce ii good mod itrong,
I couldn't iteer it right
' When they wm high, then I WM low,
An' alto oontMwiae f
And I too fait, or they to alow,
To "mansion! in the skies.
An' after every rerte, yon know,
They played a lit. I tunef
I didn't understand, an' tx
I started in too suon.
I pitched it pretty mlddtin' high,
I fetched a luaty tone.
But oh, alat ! I found that I '
Was tin pin' there alone 1
They laughed a little, I am told J
But I had done my best ;
"And not a ware of trouble rolled
Across my peaceful breast."
And sitter Brown I could but look
She tits right front of me;
She nerer was no tingin' book,
And nerer meant to be:
But then the al'ays tried to do
The belt she could, she said ;
She understood the time right through,
An' kfp it with her head ;
But when the tried thit morn to, ob,
f J, I had to laugh or er.ugh j ; ,
It hep' her head a bobbin so,
It e'en a'most came off!
An' Deacon Tubbi he all broke down,
As one might well suppose )
He took one look at sitter Brown,
An' meekly scratched hit note.
' lie looked his hymn right thro' and thro'
And laid U on the soat,
And then a pen lire sigh he drew, i
An' looked completely beat
An' when they took another bout,
He didn't even rise,
But drawed hit red bandanner out.
An' wiped his weep in' eyes.
I're been a sister, good an' tree,
For Ave and thirty year ;
I're done what seemed my part to do,
An' prayed my duty clear;
But death will stop my roice, I know.
For be it on my track ;
An tome day I to church will go,
An' oerer more come back
An' when the folkt get up to sing
Whene'er that time shall be
I do not want no paitmt thing
A squcalin' orar me I

The recent oponing of the Straslnirg
Library, which attracted bo much at
tention throughout Europe, wnt fol
lowed by an Acadmicul Excursion to
the rural districts. A correspondent
of the London Daily A'ews accompani
ed tho excursionists, and gives in one
of hia lettorg this glowiug picture of
an Alsatian landacupe :
"Boyond Klingolthal the valley nar
rowed till it became a goro. ' At
length we were id the heart of iorest.
Tho factorioa had given place to huts
that recalled the woodcutters of Mil.
Erckmann-Chatrion. Sheer above us
rose tho steep boulder-strewn moun
tain Bido, with the tall spars of the fir
trees clinging to tho seemingly earth
loss face the stream being a mcro
brooklet, with half a dozen wator fulls
in as many hundred yards. Atlongtb
by winding glens and dovious tracks,
we reached the summit of a spit ot
mountain top projecting out into the
plain we had traversed below. There
wero small fields, interspersed with
huge time and water worn rocks as
Lig as Temple Bur, studded all over
with shells. Suddenly and without
warning tho view burst upon us as we
came out from behind a great buttress
of rock upon a national esplanade.
The propped was confusing in sublim
ity; one required time to realiee it.
lief'ure us lay the broad plain of Alxacc
of tho Uhine. Over its remoter
edge hung a faint haze that did not
hide the silver stream of tho noble riv
er. The greon bosom Of the valley
was studded with pretty villages, link
ed together by the white roads, bor
dered by trees. Far across, rising
dimly in undulation above undulation,
was the bill country of tho Black For
est. In our rear, and to right as to
left, rose tho confused peaks of tho
Yosges, of which ours seemed the cen
tral one. Lofty summits, crowned
with ruined castlos, had their shoulders
swathed by tbo dark pine woods.' Out
in tho plain before us stood op the
noble spiro of Strasburg Cathedral.
Thoso bluo hills to the extreme north,
dimmed by the hate which risos from
tho vast expanse of plain were the
mountains of tho Kheingnu ; on the
eouth the eye could discorn the spire
of Freiburg Minister, with tbo duokv
Feldberg over against it, U10 low hilltt
or tho J5roiagau and the clean cut en
trance to the llollenlhal. Tart of this
wo saw on tho esplanade ; but tho full
extent ot the prospect was only real
ized when wo havo traversed the fore
court of the convent, parsed through
11s corriuors, aiong lis qunint garden
past the donr of the lilllo chanel. and
so to the look out placo beforo tht rc.
treat undor the irent elm trees.
Standing here, one looked down to
the loot 01 precipices hundreds of foci
doep, that fall shoor down on thrvo
sides out of the four. Itsocmedasit
wo could amuse ourselves bv throw,
Ina biseuitt into Oltrott, which wo had
loll two bours bofore. Oborchnhoim,
six miles off, seemed at our feot.
Who could boliovo that Strashuri?. iho
spiro of which seomud to close, was
eighteen miles away as tho crow flies 1
Tho spot Was one to linwor in fnr hntira.
to bocome Imbued with tho spirit of
.u owuury, as or.o leant alone over
me cotiiBiinng wall, and looked down
now oil tho rich nlains of A Innnn. now
on tho crags and tho variegated forest
