return from Knox, that our sterling Democrats
manfully sustained their devotion to principles, by
voting the whole Democratic ticket But It Is just
to them te say, that they did It not this time as an
endorsement of tbe resolution of the Plate Con
vention which acknowledged the legality of the
injustice of the Congress at Washington, and es
pecially the FuurttiHtk and Fifltentk Amend mtttl$.
Wo endorse nothing of the kind, and Iu oasting
our votes on the 10th we confess wo did It against
eon science, so far as the resolution was eonocrned.
But we did It as Democrats who believed we had a
higher duty to perform than that which must bavo
actuated the framers and strong supporters of that
shameful departure, Let the next Convention,
when It moeU, reaffirm the old and long tried prin
ciples of Demoeraey, and you will find a spirit of
political enthusiasm springing up In this county
such as you have never witnessed here, and which

The Largest Day's Work. On
Saturday last the Steam Saw Mill of Messrs.
Iloorur, Harris A Co., located about two and one-
half ilIIcs from this place, turned out the moet
lumber, the result of 10 hours' and 25 minutes'
work, that has ever been out by any mill In this
region of rapid lumber manufactories. The ex a
number of feet cut on the above date aud within
the time stated Is 08,9.13. The mill is compara
tively new, baring been in operation only since
spring, and. wae built by. Wen. L, MuClellan, of
this place, who has no superior as a mill wright,

Was accomplished, was B. L. Churchill, The own
era and sawyer feel confident that the work of tbat
day can be exceeded if tbe mill is put to its nt
