were not present to bear the lecture delivered be
fore the V. M. C, A., In tho Court House, on

Fatal Accidknt. U lat Tuesday
morning Jehu S. Packer, sou of Isaac Patdter, fell
from a chestnut tree near the residence of his par
ent?, nnd struck upon Ills bond, causing instant
li'Ath. His sister was near at hand, and to her be
remarked, "Hannah, suppose I should fall." The
words were scarcely out when he fell. ' Ho was
eiigftjred to be married within a few weeks, and he
Mtni to have had some premonition of Impending
uVath, for on Fund ay last he asked his aftjaneed,
it is said, if he should die during the week whetbor
she would attend his funeral. His parent were
at the Fair when the orrowful went occurred.
IeerMod was about 21 yoara of age. His remains
will be taken from tho residence of his pareuts at

of Hclawaro, whence his parents emigrated to this

family of flro children, for the long period of
his jrigorous,munbood, he had an active pirt in

lie was noted as a man of wonderful energy, reitT
less industry and sturdy will. Whatever else
might be said of Judge Wright, no man could
charge him with duplicity. Ho was outupokcu
and emphatically on the one side or the other of
every question that presented Itself. Ho was
Sheriff of this county from 13.17 to 18-10 ; aUo,
Associate Judge from 1840 to 1H3), and In 1817 be
was one of the oomm Urn ion eri who settled tholand
damages of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company
through the counties of Huntingdon, Rlair and
Cambria. Tho duties of which stations he dis
charged with true fidelity. For tho most of his
business life ho was a dealer in lumber and mer
chandise, In tbe pursuit of which he had acquired
a competence, and up to the setting In of his last
illness he pursued this business with all tho rigor
and forecast of his earlier days. Pretending to
no special attainments, Judge Wright was a man
of very strong patiro parts, and therefore, less in
fluenced by the world about him than most men.
Ho fashioned after himself and made ft character
of his own. With a rugged will and restive ener
gy, be pofFfBsrd a tender heart and a lively
affection. Ho wns a kind neighbor as a) no an af
fectionate huxband aud father. His remains were
followed to their final resting plnoe by a very large
procession qf relatives and friends. . ,(

board make oath before a Juttlce of the Peaco

the school law elsewhere provides "that no person
shall be employed aa a teacher who docs not hold
ft valid certificate." All teachers, therefore, en
gaged in teaching, whose certificates eease to )e
ralid, should be compelled to quit until their cer
tificates have been rencwod. The di'trirts in
which the law heretofore was violated only received
their share of the State appropriation through
the special efforts of the County Superintendent
and the leniency of the Pchool Department. No
President should "swear" or "aftlrra" to such re
ports, and no report of districts In which teachers
without valid certificates hare bocn employed or
allowed to teach will hereafter be approved,

mitted to see New Vork, with its thronged Broad
way and Its great Park, containing living animal
and birds of all kind", and of scenery the grand
cat. From there to Philadelphia, with Pah-mount

I came to Curwciisville, where I found the enter
