TheolHcersof tho Penitentiary recog uized him before be got luoide tho gate. What his real name is, or bis next atiai will be, no one seems to know. Get Ready. Suiters, lawyers and witnesses may as woll get ready for a long seige of Court during the month of November, com mencing on the second Mondny, the 13th. We understand that arrutigeuieuts hare been made for holding a three-weeks' term, for tho purpose of trying eivil causes. A throe-weeks' sciga of this character should go a great way toward bringing up the old cases, so that a civil cause ean be tried in a reasonable time. I. O. O. F. Tho members of Clear field Lodge, No. 198, I. O. 0. F., together with invited guests, will celeb ra to the twenty-fifth an niversary of the organization of their Lodge, on Friday, tho nth of October, by public procession in full regalia, a dinner, and other appropriate ex ercises; to elose with a free leetnre in the Court House in tho evening, by Tast Grand Sire J. Tho Democrntio tickets for State, district and eouniy officers have been printed and delivered to J, Bluke Walter, Esq., Chairman of the County Committee, who has no doubt delivered them Into proper hand ere this. Dot it would be well enough for our democratic friends, who happen to be in town this week, to inquire after (hem and learn their whereabouts. We have printed 8,000 for each candidate. Now, it is for the candidates to ice that the voters turn out and put them in the ballot box. imm m . He is evidently a first-elass bounty jumper. Hence his success in jumping on horses and off the ears. How natural for some men te pursue their warlike calling after its close. Democratic AUktinu. We have been requested to state that the Democrats of this borough will meet in the Register's oftkc, on Sat 1 nrday evening next, to nominate an Assessor and School Directors, to be supported on Tuesday next. Let there be a general turnout on that occasion, and a good man nominated for Assessor. It Is an oflloe of more importance, since the enactment of the Registry Law and the extension of the term to three years, than any other municipal office. Hence the importance of selecting a business man, .competent fur tbe positioa. Young Men's Christian Associa tion, There will be a lecture delivered in the 'Court House this evening, October 4lh, nndor the ,aapiees of (he above association. James F. An enterprise which has long been under consideration, and one of Importance to the two places particularly inter ested, hu received vitality iui Vt'.'iI ooa be rig orously andvr nay. Wc refer to nothing less than Uie building of a first-clous turnpike between this place and Oiecola, by the Mushannon Plank-Road and Turnpike Company, acting under a charter granted by tho Legislature and approved April, 1K70. On Saturday, September 10th, a meeting of stock-holders was called at the office of L, U. Lingle, Esq., in Oweola, and an organisation woe fr?ctc'i, rUh the election of the following officers: Pres., C. Munson ; Bee., W. A. Crist; Tress., E. Perks; Direotors, John Lawshe, J, F, Steiner, Milo Hoyt, U. F. Hoop, Adam Kephart. Messrs. W. A. Crist and L. O. Lingle were appointed as a committee to draft by-laws. Two hundred and five shares of stock, at $6 per share, have been subscribed, an amount nearly sufficient to build tin road, and it is exported that work will be com mcuced within two weeks. There arc probably no two towns in the State, distant from each other hut four miles, which are connected by so poor and dangerous a highway as I'bilipsburg and Osceola, and the rapidity with which stock boa been Ink en is an evidence of tho want of this now road. It will terminate at tho end of PrcHqueislc st.cot, at this place, and between two of tun principal streets at Osceola, The course as projucted will avoid tho honvy grades of the present road and tho turn pike Itself will bo substantially built. That the enterprise will he pushed forward, no further proof need be elted than tbe character of the officers of the company. I'kiliphurg Journal, There are no two boroughs in the State connect ed by such miserable roads as Philipnhurg and Osueola. Tho road I between the two places arc a disgrace to civilisation t almost impassible In the fall, and spring of the year, and realty unlit to pass over with a buggy or carriage In mid-summer. We are right glad that the business portion of the two places are moving in the right direction in this long neglected enterprise. On fifWiW 14th, IH71, In C.rlU!., IV, bj R.t. Wnu, Mr. 0. L.
