twenty -11 fib anniversary of the establishment of
Lodjp No. 19ft, I. O. of 0. P., I to bo celebrated

parade, address and supper. There are now five
UJge in the county, and If there Is a general
turnout by the fraternity It will be an Imposing
Fat Your Tax. J)o.inquent tax-
payers will please bear in mind the faot that if
they wish to reap the benefit of five par cent, dis

by the 1st of September, because after that time

How is Tins? &a. Several weeks
ago our Cameron exchanges, for the purpose of
demonstrating that Emporium, tho eapital of that
county, was a very Intelligent and populous town,
tated that the postmaster had mailed something
over .100 letters in one day. That's business, to
be sure; but what do yon think when we tell you
that Mr. (J nulla, the postmaster at this plana,
mailed 9oi letters on Wednesday last ?
Burglary. Some ovil-disposed
"cuss" on Thursday night last removed a large
pane of glass in one of the front windows of Mr.
Hhowers's grocery store, and entered and stole
therefrom about fire dollars in money, together
with a lot of brandy peaches, pickled oysters, and
other perishable goods. Tho Inside work looks
like that of some rmnrt young man, but the enter
ing process bears the marks of a manly burglar,
and is just the kind ofacase for our police officers
to look after. '
Counterfeits About. Within the
pwt two weeks we have been shown quite a num
ber of counterfeit two dollar bills, purporting to be
issued by the AVnfi National Bank of New York
City. The bills are pretty well executed, and when
colored, as some are, will readily deceive those who
are not in the habit of handling money. The an
chored are easily detected, because the paper is
much whiter than in the genuine bills. There Is
evidently some one "ihoveing" these bills in this
eouoty, because they seem to eoino from different
sections.
Ohituary We are compelled to
chronicle the demise of William Bloom, Sr., Esq.,
which occurred at Curwensville, on the morning of
the Uth instant, in the 00th year of his age. His
remains wore followed to the tomb on Sunday last
by the larirest eoneourse of people that ever turned
out at a funeral In that place. He was personally
known to more eitiicns of the county than any
other man in L Ho was personally very popular,
although he never held but one office in the ooun
ty, that of Sheriff, fie received a commission
from Governor John Andrew Sbulio, dated on tho
20th day of October, A. D. 125 nearly forty -six
years ago.

Chicken Thieves. It is very hu
miliating to say so, but that we have in our midst
those who follow the exeessirely mean business of
"robbing hen roosts, Is very evident, from the
numerous complaints made by our neighbors.
The poultry thief is an unmauly dog. He is too
cowardly to eommit a burglary, and too shallow
hraind to perpetrate and eoneeal a first-class tar
crny; yet ho is to be dreaded above every other
member of the thieving persuasion, because the
business, if fotlowod for some time, renders an
individual wholly worthless. If the rrmarks of
some of those who have suffered the loss of fowls
are carried Into effect, fowl and fowler will get
their wings clipped during an engagement of this
kind, and Instead of thore being a feast on chick
ens there will more likely be a funeral from some
body's chicken coop, unless the poachers abandon
their mean business.
Bear Killed. Wo are informed
Ly a friend from Penn township, that on Saturday,
two weeks ago, as Mr. John Burgoon was return
ing-from his saw mill, on Curry's Run, he came
across a large black bear, an animal rather rare
in this country now-a-days. As good luck would
have it Mr. Bargoon had with him his gun and

Am Oily Trick. It is reported
that aa old trick of 1865, pouring oil in a dry hole,
and thou selling out, was lately praetioed near
Salina, on the Clarion turnpike. An old well, on
Hall's Run, was recently drilled deeper, and the
Then at the well, "with ways that were dark, and
trick that were vain," after finding It a dry hole,
procured a few barrels of oil and poured in. When
a prominent Franklin operator oame down, the
well was pumped, and tho oil flowed freely.

of the men at the well at fancy figures, and found
out too late that the well had been "doctored."
