Bounebuff Robbery Trial.
. Our reaJi'fs will rcmombor llio Bun-nelic-lY
robbery in Venango county
ioin jrcnti ago, in wliicli oid Mr. lien
tiehoff win ftesnultcd in bis own liottso
y pcrflona in dinguine, who nftor re
moving mm or a liirpe amount ot mon
ey, made their escape. About a year
ii go, ono of tlio nceoHBorios wag nrroul
d in Ol io, where lio was living on
liia ill gotten gains. Ho was convict
etf and sentenced to prison for a year;
but be Iim now got out, and it seems
is making things livoy for' some of tho
witnesses against him. Below we give
an extract taken from the Titusvillc
Jlerald.
. An interesting caso is now beforo
the court at Franklin. More than a
year ago, ono Shoppcrt was tried and
convicted us an accessory in the great
Jicnnehoff robbery. The principal
testimony against him was given by
two accomplices, Waldo and Miller,
whoso evidouco was secured by n prom
ie on the part of tho prosecution that,
in consideration therefore, no further
proceedings should bo taken against
lbem. But now Shoppert has served
out his year in prison, and "goes lor"
bis comrades who to meanly "went
back" oo him. The testimony of Shop
pert is very interesting, and we shall
try to give it fully in another issuo.
. It is aid to bo very damaging to two
' or three Mcadville lawyers and some
one or two detoctivos.
A curious feature in the caso nt pres-
ent is, that Mr. Benncboflf is assisting
Wulda and Miller in their defense.
Mr. B. recovered, it is said, forty or
titly mousanu dollars ot his stolen
money, and never expects to get what
tbe professional "cracksmen" received
for their work, or whnt JiimisA Krorrr
the superintendent of tbe wholo nffuir!
took with him to Europe, Asia or Af
rica. A detective or two have sued
Mr. Bennehoff for the reward offorod
for the detection of tbe thieves. If
Wilde and Miller are now convicted of
, the robbery, the caso of Detective vs.
. iionnuhoff will be materially strength
ened lor the plain tilt; lienco the anx
iety of Mr. B. to shield the parlies
now arraigned and thus frustrate tbe
ends ot justice The case is before
Judge Trunlicy, Associate Judges Con
nely and McCormick, with a sound
jury, and wo have no doubt but the
law will be thoroughly vindicated.
LATER.
James Sieger, Hugh Ponnely, alias
Hugh Donaldson, Louis Walde, Gcergo

This is the second edition of tho Bcn
neliolT robbery, committed on the

On Friday, after tho evidenco bad

the defendants had left without await

jury to bo taken back to their room
nnd loll together until tomorrow,
when the verdict as to Walde will be
received, if tbeslicriffrolurns with him.
STll.t LATER.
Friday morning, during the progress
of tho trial in this care, about half past
ten o'clock, Waldo left tho Court room
und mado bis escape to Mcadville,
where be was captured Friday after
noon by Sheriff Herpst and brought
uacK iu j-run nun on mo eight o clock

half past eight o'clock, when the iurv
came in with a verdict of guilty as to
Miner as ne stood indicted, and guilty
as to Waldo on the third count in the
indictment, vie : of being an accessory
before tho fact. ,
. - A motion was mado by defendants'
counsel for nrrest of judgment, and
ubly argued by Taylor and Marsh for
dflendunts, and S. B. Myers, Esq., for
