A Good Movr-We understand (lint.
the County Commissioners bare authorised Treas
urer Flegal to continue tn allow the taxpayers a
discount of I per eent. until, and Including the
1st day of October next. This is proper. The
change made by the Legislature in the mode of
collecting the taxes in this eounty, was unknown
to many of the taxpayers until after the Treasurer
had passed over the county. Hence the lizard
has authorised him to allow the usual discount to
those who hare not yrt paid their taxes. This
wiU enable two-thirds of tbe delinquents to pay
their taxes aad get the advantage of the discount.
Court intervening, many wilt cmhnuw tbe oppnt

art time and money. An advertisement else

On Tucalyr morning, at an early hn.if, Mr.
Thompsou It ft b'mo III a linger, carrying with
bun a torpedo to be rpl...cd in a mil do tlir
Fusler farm, a few miles below town, lit" ar
rired there In empanv with Mr. John yuinn,
who rode d.twn with kiui, and ha hit torpedo.--At
Ihe farm be received two old torpedoes to fetch
to tht factory above thit city, and they were the
catitf of hit death. These torpedoes had been ly
ing at Vuitvr foiuv fiva or nx wnks aud wtro to
b rftnrned bcoKusa they bad failed to exploit
when triid in tht wrll. It t fiid tliai wht-n K-fi
xpoied to the wmthrr fur a length of time, th.-ic
itiRtrumenU of d'tb are more dang"ruui than
when tint fillrd, and that Mr. Thompion vaa a I
rifed to let thera alone. Ho atarted with them on
hti return h iinrward, alone, Mr. Qulnn coming
tin by rail, becuuiti luma buainei here required
hit attention in the afternoon. A few mi nut en
before the oatatnphe Mr. T. arrived at Samuel
Urahato'a on Bully Hill, where he et an apple
and lighted a cigtr. On leaving, he. laid to Mr
Gralutn--"Oood by ! Sain ; perhapi you'll never
tee me again!" The Iml person who aaw him
alive wns Mr, RoSert Graham, who mut him and
passed him a'iout five minutes before tho explo
sion.
Tbe report of the torpedo was heard here about
four o'elook, but it was euppaed, to hare been a
blast In the stone quarry at the lower end of town.
Soon however, tho news of the terrible calamity
was brought to tbe oily, nod kind friends started
at onoe fur the remains.
The accident occurred about one mile and a half
out on tho llully Hill road. The body of Mr.
Thompson waa thrown about fifty feet from the
place where tbe torpedo exploded, and was lying
terribly mutilated, at the side of the road, the left
arm, above theelbow disserved from the body, and
milling. Tho horse and tb for wheels of the
buggy were found aSout one hundred yards away
wbkh diitanss the horse had run before he fell.
Tbe fetie arunn t showed the terrible pjwer of
nitroglycerine. Tbe after part of the buggy was
reduce! to chips, an J a larg- portion of the axle
not fouud. One of tbe time was hanging in a
tree, some twenty feet hib, aud one of the un
fortunate victim's boots was banging on another.
Tbe main charge of tho torpedo ha J entered tbe
left aide just abovctbv hip, and death must have
eome like a (Lash and without physical suffering.
The bead aud fa.-e were not muth disfigured,
showing only slight ahraious, aaused doubtless
by the fall of the bo ly on the ground.
We do not remember a more heart-sickening
calamity. Death is terrible at all times and under
all circumstances. Hut hero was a follciw towns
man in the prime of life, who left a fond wife and
three interesting little children in the morning
awaiting his return, cut down before sunset, with
out a moment's warning, and the maugled remains
of a kind husband aud father following close after
the announcement of an affliction ao terrible.
.Men hell their breaths, and eoulj scarcely realise
or brlicve the terrible news. Tbe be reared wife
and children have tun huartit-lt sympathy of tbe
whole community. May lie who "tempers the
wind to the shorn lamb" eoaMe them to bear the
great trial which a loss like theirs involves.
Mr. Thompson was will known to our eitisens
aud generally esteemed. He came to Venango
from Clearfield county some servnteen years ag,
and was in the thirty-ninth year of hit a at the
time of bis death. His funeral was attended on
Wcdtiesdiy by the mem hers of Venango Lrwler
I. O. 0. F., and Myrtle Lodge, A. Y. M., of both
of which be was a member, an l by a large con
course of his fellow eitisens. A large delegation
of Odd Fellows fro in Oil City also abiUU-d in. the
last sad rites.

II. T. Ilrlrabold, lrugt;ls :
Irn Sin I have hwn snfferirtg. for upward
of twenty years, with grsiel, bladder and kidney
affections, during which time I aava ustd various
medical preparations, and been under the treat
ment of tbe rnoct eminrut pht sicinn, ciperiencing
but little relief.
Hating eoen yoor preparations ritcnsively ad
vertised, I consulted with my family phyMuisn In
rrgerd to U'ing your Kitravt Hncbu.
I did this because I hsd used all kinds of adver
tised rt midit s, and bad lound them worth less, and
some quite injurious; in fact, I despaired of ever
getting well, nnd ditcrmincd lo ue no remedies
bcrekftrr unless I knew of the Ingrrdietits. It
waa this thnt prompted no lo use ynr remedy.
As you advertis'-d that It wns compos, d of bueha,
eut-ets, and Juniper lierrii a, it ooeiirre'l (o me and
my physician as an tiell -ut oombinatlon, and.
with bis advice, alter an examination of the arti
cle, and consulting again with the druggist, I con
cluded to try it. 1 commenced its use about eight
months ago, at wliieh time I was confined to my
room. From the first bottle I was astonished and
gratified at tbe ben"flial effect, and a Her using it
three weeks, was aide to wa'k out. I felt much
like writing yon a full statement of my case at the
time, but thought my improtrmcnt tniht only be
temporary, and therefore concluded to defer and
see if it would efloot a perfect cure, knowing then
It would be of greater value to you, and more
satisfactory to nio.
1 am now able to report that a cure ia effected
after nxing the remedy for five month.
I bit re not used any now for three months, an 1
feel as well In all respects as I ever did.
Your Hue.hu being devoid of any unpleasant
latc and odor, a uioe tonic aud invig.rtorf tw
system, I do not mean to be without it whenever
occasion suay n quire its use in sueh affect inns.
