The proceedings and tubular state ment of the result ol tbe Democratic Frimary election in this county on the 11th will be found elsewhere in this issue. The popularity of onr nominees is fully established by the large vote polled in tbo county, and that received by tho respective candidutes. Tho aggregate vote reached nearly 2,.100, tho largest ever cast at a similar elec tion. Another significant fact is es tablished by the election returns, and that is, the large and almost unani mous vote received by some of the candidates in their own townships And neighborhoods. John G. Hull, oar nominee (or As cmbly, is a lawyer by profession, n -citizen of Elk county. Having been elected last full and behaved liimeelt' while in the Legislature, lie encoun tered no opposition, and will of course receive the district nomiuation and election equally easy. Jut!n J. Tie, is a citizen of Girard township, and by strict attention to Cuisines, and endowed with industri ous habits, has gained fur himself and family ft competency in the double capacity of Blacksmith and Farmer, and will no doubt make a good Sheriff lie had four rivals cither of whom would have made good Sheriffs ; but tbe lower endors had "tho longest polo," henco they got tho "persim mons." The party never had better mon in the field (or this office David Buck, is a resident of Clear field, and the present borough Con stable, lie will no doubt discharge the duties of Commissioner with honesty and fidelity, lie is a one armed soldier; and as tho Radicals love "tbo boys in bluo" so excessively, but never give them an office, they will of course, like tho Democrats, ull vole for the maimed soldier. A. W. Walters, the nominco for District Attorney, is a young lawyer of fair abilities and lucks nothing to make an excellent officer, which we have the confidence bo will prove to bo. Jacob A. Faust, tho nominco for Jury Commissioner, resides in this borough, and has been acting in that capacity for two years past. Ho i particularly well qualified for the posi tion, from his extensive acquaintance with the citizens of the county. D. Aaron Wise, is a successful merchant in Knox township and pos sesses all the necessary qualifications to audit the public accounts. Samuel A. Caldwell is a resident of Bradford township and will of course mako good Coroner. We have thus given in detail the names and loculilics from w liich our nominees huil, and in common with our party (riends rejoice that they are all Democrats of unimpeachnblo char acter and that their triumphant elec tion is a foregone conclusion, and fur ther; that the dark and bloody cloud of Rudicalism which has overhung our country for ten years pant is about being tinted with a silver lining, and by the middle of November next, the whole land willagnin be illumined hy the noonday sun of Democracy, under whose gcniul rays alone, wc can bo a happy, united people, and a dignified and prosperous nation. Get Oct "White Trasii." Tho bayonet United States Senators, seem to bo highly incensed over the treat ment tho negro cadets aro receiving at the hands of the whito boys at West Point. General Ames, llio col lesgne of tho negro Revels in the Bonnie, writes to a negro at the Insti tution saying : "Your life thero may be unpleasant. You are among boys who are proverbially cruel and incon siderate. You must not notice them." Smoke that "white Iraeh." This man Ames has about as much right to his eat ia the Senate a tho nigger has to his among the white hoys si West Point Both should bo in the Peni tentiary, hence they can afford to be saucy. ' F.vervlhinc points to the strong probability thai tho next Congress will be Democratic, lhe nsre ixmni bility of such a result should inspire very Democratic heart with conn dence and energy. The usually quiet little villsgo or Middletown, Missouri, was lately thrown into a painful lever of excite ment by an awful catastrophe which occurred to tho bund Intely attached to Jumes Rubison S Co.'s circus and animal show, and led by Prol. M. C. Sexton. I'pon stBi-ting out from Cincinnati for tho season, the manager de termined to produce something novel in the wnv of a bund chariot, and conceived tho idea of mounting the jiind upon tho colossal den of per forming Xumidian lions, and which would form one of tho principal and most imposing features of the show. Although repeatedly warned by Professor Sexton that ho deemed tho cage insecure and dangerous in the extremo, tho managers still persisted in compelling tho bund to mlo upon it. On the fulfil morning of tho 12th, the bund took their places and the procession commenced to movo amid tho shouts of tho inulliludo of rustics who had assembled to witness the grand pageant, and henr tho enliven ing strains of music. Not a thought ot danger wns entertained by any one, but the awful catastrophe wus about to occur. As tho driver endeavored to make a turn in the street tho leuders be came, entangled and threw tho entire tcum into oonfit.i'Mi. snH ho hist enn irol of them, and becoming frighten ed they broke into a violent run. Up on the opposite sido of the street tho fore wheel of the cago eamo in con tact with a lurgo rock with such force as to causo tho braces and stanchions which supported tho roof to give awv, thereby precipitating the ontire band into tho awful pit below. For an instant tho vast crowd were paralyzed with four, bill for a moment only, and then nrose such a shriek of! ngo'nyaswus never heard before. Tho awful groans of terror and agony which arose from tho poor victims who wero being torn, Ittecrnlcd by tho frightful monsters below, was heartrending and sickening to a ter rible degree. Kvery moment some one of tho band would extricate them selves from tho debris nnd leap over the cngo to tho ground with a wild spring and faint away upon striking tho earth, so great was their terror. Hut humun nature cnuld not stnnd nnd seo men literally devoured before their very eyes, for thero wero willing hearts and strong arms ready to ren der every assUlunco necessary to rcAcno the unfortunate, victims of this shocking calamity. Jlinglcd among tho brilliant uniforms of tho poor un fortunates lay legs, arms, lorn from their sockets and half devoured, while Iho savago brutes glared ferociously with their sickly, green-colored eyes upon tho petrified crowd. Professor Clmrlcs White arrived at Ibis moment, and gavo orders in regard to extrica ting the dead and wounded, he well knowing it would bo a difficult and dangerous undertaking to remove them from infuriated monsters. Stationing men with fin ks nnd bars tit every avuilnble point, ho sprang fearlessly into tho den nmid tho sav ago monsters, nnd commenced raising tho wounded, nnu passing tlicm upon the outside, to their friends. Ho had succeeded in removing the wounded, und wns proceeding to gather up the remuin. of tho lifeless, when the iiKiminnth lion, known to showmen us Old Nero, sprang with a frightful roar upon his keeper, fastening his feet and claws in him, in his neck and shoulders, lacerating him in a horri ble manner. Professor Whito made three herculean efforts to shako the monster off, but without avail, und gavo orders to tiro upon hitn. Tho contents of four of Colt's na vies were immediately poured into tho carcass ot tho lerncious animal, and ho fell dead ; and the brave little man, notwithstanding tho fearful manner in w hich ho wns wounded, never left the cago until every vci-tigo of the dead was carefully guthcrcti toireihor and placed upon u sheet, preparatory lor ouriul. 11 was found that three of the ton who mounted tho cago a short limo before were killed outright, and four others terribly lacerated. The names of the killed are August Shoer, Conrad Frcoiz, and Charles (ireiner.
