Important Dkcisiox. In
a cas in tho Supremo court
of tho United Ktutes in which
tho heirs of a rebel soldier
were plaintiffs claiming the
confiscated property of thoir
father, tho decision was ren
dered in favor of tho claim
ants on Monday. Tho opin
ion was delivered by Juilo
Strong, and was his first.
This decision Is ono of very
great importance, ns it de
cides thnt the sale of property
confiscated for participating
in the rebellion is only good
for the lifctimo of the owner,
and that al his dotilh it re
verts to his heirs. A wag at
our elbow suggests that tho
purchasers of all such prop,
erly combine together and
hnvo the lives of nil these lulo
owners insured at once, or
else havo congress pass an
not pcrpotualing their exis
tence forever. It is a won
der that Judge Strong's loy
al soul allowed him to follow
the letter of the Constitution,
by which he compelled bis
rascally friends to give up the
property they had stolen
from their neighbors during
tho war. The Constitution
being now embalmed by tho
negro, tho Judge and his
friends may linve somo re
spect for that instrument in
tho future. Hut they bad
better be sworn again to
make the thing safe.
