week afterwards. The ease was open
ed on Thursday, and conducted on the

Tlio ease was vigorously prosecuted
and defended until Saturday evening,
when it was delivered to the jury by
an able charge from Judgo Mayor.
(It is our intention to publish it at
somo future period.) The jury in a
few hours returned wilh a verdict of
"guilti of nturJcr in the secunJ degree."
And at 9 o'clock on Saturday night,
after some protestations on tho part
of Mr. Swoope, the defendant was
sentenced for a term of seven years
and six months in tho Western Peni
tentiary. As be has already served
sis months in jail, this makes it equiv
alent to eight years.
