guide boards to bo placed at the forks

constables to report to the Court cases
where the law bas not been complied

beneficiul to all classes of people.
Nothing is more unpleasant than not

Many townships of this county are

Excelsior ! The watclifires of the
Democracy seem to be burning as
brightly as belore tho November fa
naticism attempted to drown them
out. The best feeling prevails in our
ranks. Our forces are more intact
than those of our victorious enemies,
who are just now glutting themselves
with the offal from the "loir tables
We are pleased to notico that Demo

if not to be behind here, a goodly
number of Democrats met in the
Arbitration Room in the Court Ilouso,
on Saturday evening, and organized a
'Young Mens' Democratic Associa
tion of Clearfield." A constitution
and by-laws were drawn up" and
adopted, and tho following officers
elected i
President jr. McCullougb, Esq
Treasurer Wm. D. Bigler, Esq.
Secretary A. W. Walters, Esq.
Executiv, Committee Dr. Boyor,
Waller Barrett, Francis Short, Esq'rs.
We understand that Lcavy's fine
now ball bas been rented by tho As
sociation, and will bo put in order at
once as a reading room and for meet
ings. It is the design of the officers
to employ first class speakers and lec
turers during the winter, of which
due notice will be given.
This is a step in tho right direction,
knd now it behooves every Democrat
in tho county to become interested in
this matter, and see that tho enter
prise is a success.. Tut tbo Associa
tion on a sound finnnciul basis, and

making its room the resort of men of
business, leisure and pleasure, and all
redound to tbe success of Dotnocracv.
We are requested to slato that the
first regular meeting of the Associa
tion will be held at their room on
Wednesday evening, the flih instant,
where all Democrats arj others who
love tbe Union are expected to attend.

oliject, producing a blank book of sta

tions relative to the condition and
prospects of the different crops in the
neighborhood, the answers to which
he writes down as dictated to him
A blank space, remains at the bot
tom ol the book, which ho alh-ires is
for miscellaneous crops, and in this
spnee he requires the farmer to write
his name as a guarantee of tbe truth-
tulness ot the report. This is tbe last
tho liirmer sees or hears of the agent
until, a lew nays nllerwarUs, lie is
prei-enled with a note bearing bis silt
nature, and calling for such amount
as tbe agent may deem proper. A
case of th s kind occurred in lluntinir
don county a few tbtys since., the vic
tim being a ilr. hliocuiaker, who, upon
investigation, discovered to bis cost
that the pretended agent bad written
a note for the aforesaid amount, above
his signature in the blank apace., dis
posed til the paper to a third party,
and immediately left for parts un

pay the amount of tbe note, for the
