A Band in Puospect. We arc
pleawd to learn tbut proper steps are
being taken by our citizens to organ
ize, a Hrass Bund in our borough.
Wo have tbo numbers, musical talent
and money in our midst to get tip ono

those who help themselves.
An Omnibus in Town. Every day
brings us nearer the borders of civili
zation. The railroad will be comple
ted by tbe first of December, and Ihe
telegraph by the first of March next;
while, through tho enterprise of Mr.
Johnson, of tho JIansion House, our
peoplo are being treated to a ride in a
regular city omnibus, which bo has
secured to run botween tbo depot anj
tho hotel us soon as the "iron horse '
outers the borough. Tho "bus," w hicb
ran from tho diamond to th Fair
ground last week, engaged tho atten
tion of tho young folks qtnto as much
as anything al tbe Fuir. To many it
was tbe first sight at a wagon that
never gets filled w ith jiassengers.
Grand Tahleav. If there were any ;
persons in this community stupid
enough to suppose that the Ilemocrats
of Cleai Geld were "a band of traitors,"
or that the party was dead, we imagine
they discovered their mislako, if they
were present and beard and saw w bat
transpired in the Court room on Sat
urday night. The room "run crowded
to witness the presentation of a mag
nificent silk Flag, on tho part of the
Democratic ladies, to the Seymour
A liluir Club of this borough. Tho
arrangements were magnificent. Tho
st:go was occupied by a choir nnd
forty young ladies arruyed in while.
Thirty -seven of whom bore ultornule-
ly scarls cf "rotl white and blue," w ilh
the ntinin of a Slate upon each. The
other three were properly arrayed,
and represented, respectively, Justice,
tho (ioddoss of Liberty, and Tcaco.
The former held in her Lands a sword
ami a pujr of scales, w hilo the Goddess j
ol Liberty elevated splendid silk I
Flag, and tho latter hugged tbo horn
of plenty, w ell filled with the fruits ol j
tho field. The sight was grand, and
caused many "loil" persons present to j
stop nnd soliloipiiso whether a L nion
of all the Stales w as not preferable to j
tho ragged and defiled thing wo now
havo. Ex Gov. lligler, on behalf of
the ladies, in an appropriate manner,
presented tbe banner to the Club, nnd
Col. Waller lUrrett was deputed Ly
the Club to receive the emblem of our
nationality. Tho Flag was delivered
to Col. l:tvrctt, by the Goddess of
Liberty, in a style and manner which
"Virtue, Liberty and Independence"
alore can assume. The Colonel then
addressed the assemblage in an clo
(inent mnnnerj pledging the Club,
and all others w ho would enlist under
"this old Ilctnooralic banner," to con
tinue their labors to. llio end that the
"sta;- and stripes" should soon again
wave over the land of the free and the
home ortbc brnvo. Ho then delivered
tho banner into tho bunds oC J. IV
Wulters, Esq , who, upon receiving it,
pledged bis efforts and tboso of the
Club, to labor until it should wave
over thirty-soven, or more, free, inde
pendent and sovereign States. Jur
ir.ir tho proceedings, tho choir sang in
a grand atyln the "Star Spangled Hnn
nor" and other national ail's. Tbe
proceedings closod about half -past 0
o'clock, and wo saw mora pleased
countenances emerge from the Court
House door, than we ever did before.
The Flag is a magnificent ono, made
of heavy silk, and cost ono hundred
dollars. Tho I'emorrary aro mainly
indebted to Mrs. J. tt. Wallers, Mrs.
Fautaiid Miss Mary Walters, through
whoso untiring r.enl and energy the
plan was conceived and successfully

to exercise tiieir rignls aa American
freemen, and Ihus Intimidated, they
have been deprived of their voles. In
somo cases the election olllcers have
luhrn iios-oKsinn ol their papers, and
refused eill er to give them tip, or lo
give tbo elector his vole, lnonecaso,
in the city of I'hiludi Inliia. the
Jud'O who had granted the paper
the Clnel Juslico ol tho Slate, at the
poll whore bo himself was voting, was
sworn to Urn genuineness of the paper,
ve.t tbo vote was rejected, tha oath ta
ken for nothing, and tho paper pro
nounced null and void. Again, in the
saino city, wbolo precincts were count
ed out by tho Convention of Kettirn
Judges, who passed upon tbo (juulili
caiiuns of tho eloutors, contrary lo
law und against juslico and right, and
thus deprived about one thousand
bona fide voters of their rights of citi
zenship I
Il is a woll known fact that several
thousand voles were imported to our
State lor the puipose of carrying cer
tain Congressional Uialricui and to
dol'uat our Hiato ticket. Look at tho
voto ol .Philadelphia. In 1SG7 the
Democrats polled 62,075 votes ; in
IKON they poll CU,H08 voles a gain of
8,733 votes, or 15 per cent, of the
wbolo. In 1807 tbe llepublicans
polled 40,587 votes; in lbtiSS they poll
00,(133 voles a gain of 11,040 voids,
or 2U per cent, of tho whole. These
liiCts show conclusively thut this in
creased vote is not tits result of a nat
ural increase. If it was, the greater
per conlago should be in iavor ot the
party that was in tho majority last
year ; for it will be scon from the facts
belbre slated, that we increased our
voto hence the Kepublican gain, wag
not from our party, but their gain
wus imported from Xew York city,
liultimore and elsewhere. The figures
already given show the vole in Phila
delphia to be 4,522 more Ihan wus ever
polled ia the city of Xew York 1 Who
w ill pretend to say Ibis wus not an
imported vole, or that Philadelphia
has more voters than New York f Is
it any wonder, then, in view of tbe
number of legal Llemocratio voters
they deprived of their votes tli6 num.
ber of illratil Jtenttblican voters thev
permitted to vole and the hundreds
imported to vole the Kepublican tick
et I say is it any wonder tbe result
is against us f
The Iiuinocratic party has fought a
noblo battle, they have steadily in
created their voto in tbo Slate, and it
was only the most gigantic frauds
practiced upon them by tbe republi
can party that prevented them
from being successful. The largo
number of illegal voters brought from
other Stales into our own, to vote tbe
liepubhcBii ticket, will return at tbe
next election to vota where they be
long, in order to save their own States
and local ofhecrs. 1 say, therefore,
we are not defcuted, and if we poll tha
voto in November that we did on the
13t b of October, the State wjll go for
Seymour and Dlair by 1U,U0U majority.
Tbe pcolU aro with us a fair vote
will give us tbo Slato. Coins up,
then, tellow-Iiemocrals, to tbe work
in November. Let nothing discour
age you. Kally once more for a final
charge. The cuemy has exhausted
his strength. Let us make one more
Herculean effort and tho victory is
ccitaiu.
