jiro the HulijoLt of a lilllo seiiBiitioiinl
pihiip and criticism since last week,
iii-hiiH about under tlio following cir
cumstances :
A school tenohor namod Murray,
sjiod soma timo ago. A bovy of his
comrades mot and adopted a series of
'Whereas," "HeHolvcd," lc, covering
h piB'o of foolscap, and ono of tlio ro
solves modestly ordered that tlio pro
ceedings bo publibhcd in tlio county
papers.
A member of tlio Committee (whom
we know not) handed us tho docu
ment, with a request to publish it.
We, understanding our businons, de
clined to do so, except as an adver
tisement. Knowing full well that if
one school teacher was entitled to a
half column notico for nothing, the
rest might mako tho same demand
upon us when their turn camo. This
thing of Whcrcasing and Resolving
ncliool teachers was both novel and
new to us, und we viewed tho matter
wholly in a business light, and so
treated it. If it was any advantage
to cither the dead or living teachers,
it was, like everything elso, worth pay
ing for. Tho parties might, with the
name propriety, have gone to a mer
chant and ordered a shroud, or to a
cabinet maker and demanded a coffin,
and refused to pay for the article.
"IVe chargo nothing for publishing
death notices, but tho labor of com
mittees should never bo smuggled
through a printing odieo.
We aro pleased to know that those
who growl and lio the most about
this matter arc those who do not take
oar paper, or if they do take it, do
not pay for it. We suppose they have
come to the conclusion that wo can
both print and advertise for nothing.
This is a mistake. Wo cannot pay
out annually $1,000 for material and
labor and get nothing in return. We
rculato our own business affairs, and
will be obliged to thoso who find fault
with us for so duing, if they will come
like men und complain to us, instead
of blubbering to their neighbors or to
those who hnve no control over tho
uijoct.
Festival and Fair. Tho lady
members of the I'reshylcrian Con
gregation in this place, wc understand,
design holding a. Strawberry and Ice
cream Festival & Fair, commencing
on Tuesday, tho 10th, and continuing
throughout WeJnesday ainlThurs
dnv. Tho festival will take place at
Jlrs. ISigler's, and tho Fair will be
held in the store room adjoining Mr.
Weaver's residence. Every thing
vsffvl and good, from a baby slipper
to a J jO Afghan, will be found in the
Fair room. Whosoever will, may
come and buy freely, besides, enjoy
Ice cream and Strawberries.
Camp Meetino. We learn that
the members of the M. E. Church cm
braced in this charge, Clearfield, Cen
tre and Curwem ville, design holding
a Camp Meeting during tho month of
August. Tho ground has not yet
been designated. Tho preacher in
charge, Mr. (Juyer, seems desirous to
bring the membership buck to tho old
lnndmarkfl from which Uishop Simp
son, and other politicians of his stripe,
h.tve forced that Church. We fear
tho Mifhop and his new associates
will bo too heavy for the old fogy
branch. His new alliance formed
with Grant and tho rest of tho whisky
rinjl will bo hard to overcome.

HOW TO SAVE MONEY.
TUB times are bard : you'd like to know
How you may save your dollars
The way to do tt I will how,
If jua will read what fulluws.
A man who lived not far from here,
Who worked hard at his trade,
But had a houtrhold to support
That squandered all he mads.
I met him once. Fays be, "My friend,
I look thread bear and rough f
I've tried lo get mynrlf a mil,
But can't save up enough."
Says I, my friend, how much bare you t

To UKlZKNsrKlN A Co.
lis took what little he had saved,
And went to Heirenmein A Brothers',
And there bs got a handaome suit,

JCcw be li home, he looks so well,
And their r fleet Is such.
That when they tube their dully meal,

And now be finds on Faturdny night,
With ell their wantu tupiilied.
That he has money left to spend,
And some to lay a ride.
