A Freak of Kature. About five
weeks ago, a cow owned by Mr. Fin
Ufy, of this place, gave birth to a
Jaice, well developed Calf. This of
eounte is nothing new ; but last week
he got another one, and, Dp to the
prewnt, Cow and Calves are in good
coudition. What tbe prospect for
more veal is, we did not learn.
" Ari'EAts. We learn that the nation
al robbers have completed their assess
ment for this (19tb) Congressional
district, and 'rill he open to inspection
and appeal at the offlce of Mr. Living

from the 10th day of April. We inter
from the manner in which tho officer
givtii notice, that no democrats liavo
been assessed, or, are not worthy of

Tu Madera Coal and Improve

tli cir meeting held on the 17th inst.,
sjloeted the following officers for tho

Ldmiier Matters. The late fresh
et has tcsulted more to tho injury
than profit of our Lumbermen. We
bavo Bcldom had more water in our
atreams than occurred last week, and
never sa'v it pass away so 6uddonly,
and with so litllo of our'staplo articlo
g-t ting to market. In fact, but few rufis
ncre gotten ready before tho flood
ha J passed away. This may, tiowev
er, be well enough, as we learn that
no raft can bo run through tho Boom
lsm at Willinmsporl, built tho past
m 'on. The few that attempted to
run it either stuck on the bar, or were
torn to pieces. It is the opinion 01
some of thoso who hare examined tho
dam, that no raft can pass it with
t'tfi'ty this season, or not until tho
vlai to is entirely reconstructed. As
Congress has taken a hand at this
business, the attention of tho members
should be called to this job at once.
Kobbers About. We notice by
Landbills circulated over town, that
Ir. Beamer and Co, "celebrated Thy
ccir.ns whose sands of lifo have not
run out," are in our midst, robbing
an I plundering our people. These
incJical humbugs are wolves inshocps
clothing and should be carriod out of
town on a rail, or locked up in jail,
should they attempt to practico thoir
frauds upon the people Wo notice
t!: it tbey intend plying their vocation

tuui t Lutbcrsburg until tho 3d of
April. We hope thero is no one fool
ii h 'nvugh to patronize these travel
