The weather does not often disturb ourequilibrium.but it "fetched us" on Saturday and Sunday last. The Tber BiOmeter dropping down to 22 below scro and the next day 40 abovo, ruther disconcerted our weather gauge. If our FerguKon township "citizen" will aend us Li real name, we will publish Lis communication. His in quiries are well put, and proper, but we will not publish any comrnumca tion unless we are in possession of the name of the author. Mr. Richard Bard, of'Curwcnsville, who has been operating on a log job cm Sinnemahoning creek, met with a serious accident lust week. While attempting to remove some 6aw logs from the schute, bis leg was CHiight by a descending log and struck ugainst another, smashing his foot and ankle completely. Ho lias had his leg amputated below tlio knee, and is doing as well as could be expected. It will be noticed elsewhere that Messrs. Hartsoek & Goodwin have treated an innrroction nt Cui-werm-vi'.le. They olTcr tluir customers tho best quality of goods in market, and Attack Gen. High Prices front and flank. Their effort, nt this distance, looks as though they would bring about a successful revolution. As tho citizens have some interest in tbe matter, they had better give it their attention. A Grand Festival, for the benefit of the Osceola Cornet Band, will be held In tho Presbyterian Church, in that Tillage, on the evenings of tho 21stand 22J inst. Being neither a clergyman nor a pretty girl, we will necessarily be absent ; but we hope the voting will till go on. "For particulars, see small bills." Obitcart. We are eompcilod this week to announce tho demise of one of our oldest and most respected citi zens. We refer to Thomm Holt, Esq., who depnrted this life, at his residence, in Brudford township, on Thursday, tho 30lh day of January, in the 8 4th year of Lis ago. Mr. Holi was born in Centre county. His father was a Colonel in tho Revolutionary army, under Washington, and as in our day was often called a traitor and pro nounced disloyal and a rebel, by the satraps and backers of George III, and the "loyal millions" of 1776. The subject of our notice first came to this eounty in 1815, and erected a cabin on the premises where he breathed ais last; but he returned again to Bld Eagle valley, and in the spring of 1819, emigrated to this county with bis family. He endured a full share Of pioneer life ; yet amidst nil tho hardships allotted to early settlers, he pased fur beyond the "three score and ten" years allotted to mortals, and continued vigorous until the last few years. He raised a largo and in teresting fitmily, who, in his declining jearg, smoothed the rugged path of life, and sacredly consigned hiin to his mother dust, respected by all who came in contact with him. rnring his rcsidonco of nearly tifty years in Ibis county, he discharged many lo cal trusts, among them that of Jus tice of the Peace. lie was first ap pointed by Governor Wolf, and after a constitutional change was brought about, was elected for several terms. lie epouscJ the eauso of religion, and for sixty years was a consistent member of the Methodist denomina tion ; and wbeu finding that life was bbing OUl, ho Uaiilicd tlibt lie Was i t peace with God and all mankiti J, and that he held a clear title In . ! f I . , , .. Pi ch Broihi i Howard, tho negro hinvati loss, hs repeatedly stated In Ms eithii's on the nigger, that ''the colored troops fought bravely," and there has been snt h a deal of clnmor about the "loy. ally" of the them iu the Smith, and tho services rendered by them In put ting down the rebelllw.,, l!,it he sub joined figures from tho bureau of col ored troops will be interesting: Whole number munttrrd in during tht rebellion 10,ej Murtrred ouu Srt.M.1 Ililrhirgcd ?".J3 Pied Sl.Si.S Dmrtrd 14.SS7 Killrd in K-tii.n 1.514 Mining in action 1,314 Trmnafcrred to nt t MS Dmlinc at ill in tho bureau 12.4V0 ToUl 100,024 108,024 Over 70,000 of the 80,923 wore mus tered out before tho close of the war; and two-thirds of tho 20,230 dis charged, were disabled by camp and hospital diseases. Files Acceptions. We learn that "old Kod," a revolving "nig," who about a year ago was nearly assassi nated by a colored brother, has filed exceptions to tho mode of adjudicating cases in our court, llo deems it very strange law that sends one man to a penitentiary for cutting mulo meat, and another to tho county jail "for cutting a man iu do face, and kill him nearly dead, whilo do mulo is live and kicken. Dutmay be law, but im d d if it am justice. Do you link so?" Ned evidently intends to assail tho court for the apparent slight in his case. Gen. Meade, and a gang of bureau- ites, robbed the Stuto Treasury of Georgia of 310,000 lust week, with tho ostensible, purpose of paying it over to tho nigger convcutionists. Il horse-stealing is any greater crime than this, wo would be obliged to some loyalist to point just where tho difference comes in. We are indebted to a friend for a copy of two daily papers published at Cheyenne, Dakota Territory, entitled the Argus and the Leader. If the In juns don't learn to read, and become civilized soon, it will not be the fault of newspaper men. Bishop Simpson, of Philadelphia, "was tlosetod with Jlr. Stanton for over an hour" one day last week. It is to bo hoped he succeeded in con verting the heathen. But as Gen. John Pope called immediately alter tho Bishop left the culprit's ceil, the latter had better go back soon and re late tho history of Ananias and Sup phira.
