Conformity with Ciihiht. The
chief study of a Christian, and the
very thing that makes him a Christ
ian, is conformity with Christ. The
Bum of religion (says Pythagoras) is
to ho liko him' who thou worshijipest.
And that truly is our only way ; there
is nothing hut wandering anil perish
ing in all other ways, nothing hut
darkness and misery out of him : "but
ho that fullowcth me," says ho, "shall
not walk in darkness." And there
fore it is set before us in the gospel in
so clear and lively colors that we may
make this our whole endeavor to be
like him.

diligent, energy, pleasure, success in
duty, is a heart enlarged by tho love

labor and perils, chanting his morning

in the Lord and in tho power of his
might," was St. Paul but his strength
was the strength of faith.

Christian students in college., and
Christian clerks in business, are guilty
of the ncgligenco referred to in tho
following: A college, student, who,
after resisting tho strivings of the
Spirit for months, has recently yielded
Lis heart to Jesus, tells mo that the
great obstacle which kept him from
Christ was tho fact that although for
a year of college life ho had been con
stantly and intimately associating
with Christians, not one had ever
spoken to him of the welfare of his
soul. Could they bo sincere? Was
religion a reality 1
Now. tho grace of God will rjse as
high as its source. If you and I havo
grace that began with us, it will never
get higher than wo are. It you have
grace, that the priest gavo you when
you wero christened, it will never get
higher tiian tho priest; but if you get
tho truo grace of God which descends
from heaven, it will take you us high
as tho New Jerusalem, fiom which it
caino. High up in tho throne of God
aro the everlasting springs of divine
mere-; at tho foot of diviho sover
eignty it wells up a spring, clear as
crystal, ptiro without a stuin, and it
Hows down to earth, leaping down by
tho way of the cross. And it will as
cend as high as its course. It will go
to the throno again, that is where it
came from, and it will riso to its own
level, a,nd it will float up their with it.
If, by the grace of God, you have
been made to tasto, to feel, and to
bo saturated w ith the grace that came
from God, from a divine source, you
shall also havo n divine portion for
ever. It is stronger than a promise. A
promise implies that it might bo
another way. Put when ho says,
"Pceauso I live, yo shall live also," it
assumes that there is no other tiling
possible His life being granted as a
fact, the other thing follows as an ir
resistablo and inevitable sequence. So
that from him should flow that which
they needed. Whatever they lacked
of might, ho would mako good. What
ever they lacked of knowledge, ho
would supply them from disown know
ledge. hatever tho needed of guar
dianship, of consolation, of guidance,
of interference of any sort, he guaran
teed them. "Keemiso I live, we shall
livo also." My life for yours, said Christ
to his disciples. And when he said it
to those that wero nronnd about him
then ho said it to all who should bo
licvo in his name to the end of time.
And there stands flaming in tho heav
en of faith to day the declaration that
tho life of God, through Jesus Christ,
is the surely and pledge of victory and
salvation to ovtry one that believes
on the Lord Jesus Christ. Not becuase
of your goodness, not because of your
skill, and not because of your skillful
leadership under which you made your
voyage ; but because there is in God
provision for salvation 3-ou have
ground for hope und consolation.

dle, of the forest, if surrounded on
every side by trees that shelter and
shado it, runs up tall and sit kly ; but
nwiijr from its protectors, and the first
Mast will overturn it. Hut the same
tree, growing in the open air where
it is continually beat upon by the

So tho man who is compelled to rely

could not otherwise have attained.
Fourth, to bo a growing man when
you look to your post lor influence,!
instead of bringing influence to your
