The larjjo woolen mill of Mr. Kdward
Harris, known as the llama Woolen
Company, in Woonnockot, will com
mence to run on tlirceqtmrtein time
next Monday, and eomo portions of
the machinery will ho entirely (topped
bntil there is a more encouraging
jtrospect fur its proiluclions. Tho old
mills continuo their usual time at
present. 'The Lippitt Woolen Com-

ooms for sevcrnl months, but at pres
ent are running fifteen of eighteen
set of machinery.
JioOT AND SlIOK BlIHINEKg. The Ha
verhill Gazette, ot tho 1st inst., says:
At the present timo thcro is a general
atugrmtion in this branch of business,
Although tho sales in this town for tho
month of September wero ahont t jM,

$30,00(1 from the month of August.
Since then thcro has been an nnusual
dullness, and workmen aro idle about
iOur fctreels, a tho manutartturcini do
mot see their way clear to manufacture
nmny goods except ordora. There is
not ao reat a fulling off in the sale
of shoes for tho last year as eomo per
sons imagine but thcro lias been a
marked dift'ereuee in tho profits of the
business. In an unsettled stale of the
niM'ket and the general apprehension
that goods would bo lower, buj'ein
haw bnoii very cautious, and bought
s closely as possible, and tho manu
facturers, being desiroua to sell all
their Mock, have been led to sell with
but a very slight profit, and in many
run none at all. It must be con
fessed the prospect of the shoe busi
ness for the next two or three months
is not vory flattering. The fnll trade
Is closed and tho spring trado will
probably bo backward, unless there is
a char.ge in other branches of business
and the market tor leather, &c, is
more stable.
It is a remarkable fact, that bus
iness men have followed political
lunutics until they are r.oarly ruined.
Loyalty is a poor investment.
Mr. L. G. S. Hull, of Danbury, Con

that be was not going to live a great

ing bis papers, alter which he read a
fhepter in the Hihlo, offered prayer,
told his wife that bo was going to
ait), gave ber the necessary directions
about his business affairs, sent for a
physician, and t-hortly after expired.
