Beriocs Accident. Our follow-cit-iren,
Mr. Gideon D. Ooodfellow, on
Monday last, met with a serious acci
dont. Being noar the corner of Sec
Mid and Cherry streets, he observed
t vo horses, hi tebed to a wagon, run
l ing off, and made a rush to check
the team. Junt as ho seized the rein
the wagon struck a poit, bringing cv
cry thing to a sudden halt and throw
ing tho horso ho was holding upon
hiin, breaking his leg below tho knw,
knt otherwise not injuring him. He
was promptly carried to the residence
of Judge Jfarrett, and Surgeons sent
for, who soon "tet" the limb; after
which a litter wr.s procured and bo
was conveyed to his homo, about two
mile np tlie river, whero ho is doing
s well as could bo expected under
the circumstances.

Of tbo "oldest inhabitant," and we
hope tb ) i Ice may never occur again.
It is true, that nouio of the parties
charged with high crimes were ac
quitted by tho Court and jury, but
there wore doubtless gomo illicit and
wrongful transactions which served
as ft ground-work for legal proceed
ings. It is not one time in a thous
and ist an infamous crime is charg
ed against a party wholly innocent.
Ilence we concludo that thoso who
tscaiied the penalties of tho law, were
both fortunate ntid unfortunate If
guilty, they wore lucky; if innocent,
they can console theinsolves that this
isbutona of tho many dovices and
poreocutions adopted by tho enemy,
and may rejoice that tbey escaped a
felon's doom. The hore thief, M
vens, is still at lorgo, but wo hope ho
will yet be orcrtaken and legally re
warded for his transgressions. The
whole week was consumed in trying
Commonwealth causes, and nothing
but the intCFsant Inbor of the Court

pleased to learn that but ono of the
convicts is a citizen of tho county, and
that they rceoived their education

will do thctn good, and that tho bal

will find it to -their interest to quit
their calling, or migrate clsowherc,
because tho majesty of tho law will be
vindicated and the peace and prosper-1
