A good life docs not nilenro cnlum
lijT but it certainly ditmrnih it.
The two polet could sooner moot,
than the lovo ol Chribt and the love
of the world.
Borne peoplobolievo sometimes that
tncy bate Battery, wncn tncy owy uaic
the manner of fluttering.
The trimmer to popularity is a trai
tor to God. Ilia presence destroys
unity and seal ol action.
A businens that docs not challenge
tho scrutiny of God, and the approval
ot a good conscience, cannot be counts
tent and proper.
When tb world crowds Christ out
of tho heart, dutv becomes simnlv
cold, irksome, hard duty, and the. wor
ship of God a bore.
Tice und ignorance are the necessa
ry companions of each other; end we
can no moro reverse it than we can
reverse the stars in their course.
Brother, religion is not a jumble of
principle thrown together without
eystom, order, affinity, and comple
tion 1 They form a complete cone to
encircle you round about.
One of the most truly contented ex
pressions I ever knew of was that
which full from the lips of a dying
tninistor. lie was asked whether lie
wished to recover or not. Ho replied
"Really, my friend, I do not care
which. 11 1 die, 1 shall be with God ;
if I live God will be with me."
Tho blessed dead say to us, "Weep
not; rather follow the way which
will bring you whore we are ; one
gets here by loving God, somng him
with all one's heart, through the
mourning, the separations, griefs, de
pressions, tears that till up the whole
of life. Heaven is at tho end ; we
must pass through trials as the soldier
does, without tainting or dismay,
across buttle fields to glory."
It is God' swill that sooner or later
we should be separated the one from
the other, and tint in these separa
tions our heart should attach itself
more strongly to him, and turn en
tirely towards the pluco whither those
we miss are gone. The death of our
loved ones teaches us to detach our
selves from life, and all that goes on
in this poor land of exile, and to have
no other than heavenly hopes.
A prosy member of tho church rose
in a meeting and said : "My friends,
tho devil and 1 have been fighting for
more than twenty minutes. He told
mo not to speak, but I determined
that I would. Ho even whispored that
I spoke too often, and thut nobody
wanted to hear mo ; but I was not to
be put down that way and now that
I Lave gained tho victory, I must toll
you what 1 have in my heart." Then
followed a tedious hurangue. Com
ing out of tho session-room, tho good
pastor inclined bis hand so that his
mouth approached the ear of the bril
liant member, and whispered, "Broth
er, I thick the devil was right."
Lovers ot biblical antiquities will
rejoico to hear thut tho excavations
now being made in Syria have resul
ted in tho discovory, at Nadir Surapo,
of a Hebrew house dating trom about
the second century beforo Christ.
Some of tho rooms, with thoir con
'tents, aro in perfect preservation,
among tho latter being a number of
Hebrew books, showing that the
Louse belonged to a literary man.
Besides the books of Moses and the
I'sslniB of David, there is a collection
of Hebrow poems, absolutely unknown
to the Orientals of our dity. These
interesting remains, many ot which
bear traces of Egyptian origin, have
bein sent to tho Asiatic Society of
.London.
It is comforting to think wo have
a God over our heads, to look alter
us and rule us. Alas 1 what could we
mako of ourselves, if left toour own
shift 1 It is more comforting that we
can call this God our own God, and
call him more our own than we can
call houses or lands, or aught that we
havo, our own. The fulness of tho
Deity, and tho property in the samo,
is very satisfying ; and the more so,
"that no man can tako this joy from
us." lint that this fulness of tho De
ity for our moro easy and familiar
participation of the samo, should
dwell bodily in a created nuttiro, and
particularly ours ; this gives all satis
liiction possible, that poor, necessi
tous ert'iiliires oould wunt or desire.
An absolute God could not answer
our exigencies; His majesty would
astonish, and his juslico terrify, our
guilty and misgiving minds. But a
God dwelling in tho human nature,
and thcro exhibiting all the divine
glory for our contemplation, and all
tho fulness of tho Spirit for our vivifl
cation and consolation, this raises the
soul to tho highest pitch of humble
confidence, admiration and joy.
It isfuith's work to claim and chal
lenge loving kindness out of all the
roughest strokes of God. Do that
for tho Lord which ye will do lor
time; timowill calm your heart at
that which God hath dotio, and let our
Lord have it now. What lovo ye
did bcut to friends, now dead, seeing
they stand now in no need of it, h-t
it fall as a just legacy to Christ. Oh,
how sweet to put out many strange
loves, and to put in Christ. It is
much for our half slain affections to
part with that which we believe we
have right unto ; but the servant's
will should bo our will ; and ho is tho
best servant who rctaineth least of
his own will, and most of his master's.
That much wisdom must be ascribed
to our Lord, that he knowcth how to
lead his own in-through and out
through tho little time-hells, and the
places of time puring wraths in this
life and yet keep safe- his love with
out any blur upon the old and great
seal of free election. And seeing His
mountains of brass, tho mighty and
strong decrees ol free grace in Christ,
stand euro, and thecovenat.tslandetb
fast forever, as tho days of heaven,
let him strike and nurture, His stri
king must be a very act of saving,
seeing strokes upon His secret ones
come from the soft and heavenly
hand of the Mediator, and His rods
are steeped and watered in that flood
and river of love that comoth from
tbe God man's heart ct onr soul lov
ing aud soul redeeming Jesus. .

as an external application for the diseases for
which it Is recommended. W ar satisfied that
It will work Its own road Into the eoiiniiene of
all who use it, and those who try it once will
nerer be without It, and therefore we rely on
experience as tho best test of its usefulness. It
is pronounced by Farriers, and all who hare trite

Kinbrocalion has been put up tor orrr oifibl
years, and it is only through the increasing de
mand and urgent request of my friends and tli
Public that I send It forth as the grand remedial
agent for the rarioue diseases to which that
noble and useful animal, tbe boree, is subject.
Many remedies haro been offered to the Pub
lic under different forms, eom of these ar in
jurious, otheis at beet of little use, and many
wholly improper to answer the purposes for which
tbey are reeoininendod.
A Judicious and really useful composition, free
from those objections, has therefor long been
desired by many gentlemen who hare ralnable
horses, and are unwilling to trast ibeai to tbe
care of designing and pretended Ferriera. Tbeir
wiehea are at length fully gratified, by (Dr.
Beale) being prerailed npoo to allow this ralua
ble Kmbrocalion (wh.eb has prored so offieacious
to the rarious diseasee) to b prepared and
brought out to lb public.
This Embrocation was extenslrely used by
the Uorernment during the war.
