for poisoning her husband, closed on

We have lately boon sending out
bills to thoso of our patrons, who are
in arrcar with us for over two yonrs.
This wo hope will disturb no ono
seriously, as wo desire none to lose
sleep on our account, nor need they
quit1 their work suddenly and repair
to our office duringinclcment weather,
becauso numbers of them, can testify
that we are not as urgent as we some
times express ourselves, although we
might bo found ready to wait upon
thorn during all kinds of weather.

Cape May Diamonds. Tho wants
of frail humanity are supposed by
some to bo fully expressed by tho poet
in tho following lines :
"Mm wants but little here Wow,
Nor wiota that little long."
This, however, does not apply ns a
general rule, becnuso it is evident
lrom what tho poet intimated in tho
foregoing lines, that lie never partook
of a mess of Cape May bivulves, or ho
would not havo written thoso lines.
Ho oitherintended his poetry for somo
other latitudo, or tho great number of
persons rushing to Koto's .Saloon every
evening, never read them. Thoso who
may bo skeptical on this point, had
better call on John and find who is
mistaken, becauso ho can tell them
"what's what."
We this week lay before our read

tho United States Supremo Court, in
reference to test oaths, and other in

Tho loyal Legislature of Wisconsin
has passed a resolution calling upon

tho fathers.

A Wisconsin court lately derided,

man has a right to chastiso his wife to
n "reasonnhlo extent." Tho Supremo
Court of that Stato decided, some time
mm. thnt. neirrncs should voto. i lie
consequence is that darkies do tho
voting and wives get tho."walloping."
"Grand moral ideas" wo certainly arc

Tho night after tho Senatorial elec
tion, Gen, Cameron, nfter being wuit
ed upon by a number of bis virtuous
worshipers, thus delivered himself
from tho steps of bis retreat at Ijocliiel
Gknti.emkn: Your greeting is very
kind and cordial, and 1 thank you for
it. 1 thank God that in spite cf tho
slanders my enemies havo repeated,
tor twenty yours, my fellow citizens,
who have seen niyltf'o from day to
day, have always stood by my side
and helped mo to repel thorn. This
last struggle of my political life has
ended in victory. 1 desired this as an
answer to vindicate my honesty to my
children and my friends. I now pro
poho to put these slanders behind mo,
and to forget nliko tho liars who coin
ed tliom, and tho fact that pood men,
in some cases, by too repetition of
them, were induced to believe and re
peat them. Of tho eighty-two Repub
lican members of the Legislature, my
friends assure mo that sixty of them
preferred me to uny other candidate,
and would have voted for mo, rather
than witnessed my defeat. Tho char-,
ucterof my supporters isas gratifying'
to me as their numbers. Any ono who
knows anything of our polities, whe
will read tho list of those who voted
tor me, will find names as pure and
honorable as that of llie purest Chris-1
tian moralist among toy rivals; and
quite us unlikely to listen to uny cor
rupt proposal. Just there I leave the
whole matter, putting all falsehoods,
and animosities, and prejudices, to
gether under my feet ; and I go for
ward to tho honorable duties to which
my native State bus called mo for the
third timo. 1 hope to live to seo the
word 'white' striken from ourown Con
stitution and the spirit of caste, based
upon color, utterly destroyed. The
poison of thirty yeurs cannot bo era
dicated by the subserviency of tho
President, or by tho statutes of Con
gress. Let us look tlio truth in tho
tiiee. Tho Southern territory is dis
loyal. Tho loyal men of to-duy must
guard their children against another
treasonable rebellion. Tho constitu
tional amendments und impartial suf
frage will help to do this, but univer
sal amnesty will help to undo it. Of
Andrew Johnson 1 said long ago thnt

lie has dono many bad things, but
nothing worse than offering tho offices
of tho Country to tlioso unprincipled
men who agreed to desert and betray
tho greut Republican organisation tor
his patronage. Ho joined tho Demo
cratic party long ago. Ho has a right
to givo them tho offices, but ho has no
right to dispose of them at auction to
weak-kneed Republicans. I trust that
this is my last political struggle. I
have nothing moro to desire, and I
hopo wo will all forget tho bitterness
theunjuslifiublo bitterness 1 think,
of tho Into contest. For my parti
will try to act as a representative of
all the Radical Republicans of l'etin

Tho PuiuocniU oro awaking, all
over tho country. We feel it in the
air. Wo see it in the increasing in
terest taken in circulating our paper,
and other undoubted organs of freo
govcrninent. Tho "Platform" put forth by the
Ohio Democracy, is w ise, and sound.
They did well in rejecting tho reveries
of Diogenes, and whoever ho had with
him in his littlo tub ! They have dealt
well, and truly, with the living issues
that are before us. The Democratic
party in Ohio gives its hand to the
gallant Democratic party in Ken
tucky. There aro no "ifs" or "buts,"
this time. They stand together. Tho
Democracy of Connecticut has come
up to the same lino. Tho Democratic
party in Pennsylvania will do the
Miino. Somo pressure may bo needed
to affect our own unfortunato Stato.
Political traders have sold ns to tho
enemy. Tho dirty lobby thief, Thur
low Weed whoso favor is a note of
inmmj has taken his plnco among
tho "parlor politicians" ofthe so culled
Now lork JJomocracy. no musi ue
kicked out, or the so-culled Democrat
ic organization of tho Stato of New
York, must be repudiated by tho liv
ing Democracy, and tho battle be
made "to the knife" against a "shoddy

Ihmncraey is a monstrosity. A thing
against nature !
liut the country is waking nn, in
every direction. Wo call on the lctn
ocratic party, in this Stato, to vrijan
i:r. Let tho bogus machinery of the
party bo taken at no moro than its
worth. Let Democrats organize, und
enroll, and pledgo themselves to sup
port no ono for influential office that
does not endorso their programme.
