Mk. EuiTort : Permit an afflicted
friend to iinv a brief tribute to the
memory of one of our most worthy
ina unrint citizens, whoso
upright citizens, whoso melan
choly death cast such wido-t-prcad
gloom over this community durinir
the last week. Dr. Harhman Fihl-
IPs Thompson was about 41 years of
ago tbo son of James Thompson, who
spent many years of his lil'o in your
place, and died w hen the subject oi
thin notice was quite a youth. At
the ago of 14 he entered the printing
otnce, lne banner, then owned, by D.
W. Moore, where ho continued, as
apprentice, journeyman and partner,
untiMM7, when lie commenced the
study of medieino under his relative,
the late Dr. Loraiuo. His studies
were pursued with remarkable dili
gence and success, both at home and
at college, where he graduated with
the highest honors. .Soon afterwards
ho located in this place, whe re he soon
found abundant practice. As aChrist
ian, no ono was nioro devoted or sin
cere ; ns a husband and father he was
just what a true Christian should bo ;
a friend, a neighbor, and a citizen,
he was kind, generous and indulgent,
all of which was adorned with a manly
frankness such as can be said of few
men. Truly have we lost one of our
best citizens. Yours, Ac,
