to thc Government questioned by them,
thereforo, in view, and for the purposo of

this occasion for the purpose of forming
an association to be known as the Union
Demoirntic Cm1'. And the better to set
forth our true position, wo publish and
declare the following to be tho article of
our political faith in matter to which
they relate.
1st. Wo are unquestionably in favor of
tho Union of nil tho States.
2d. That tho Constitution of tho Units
ed States, and laws made in accordance
with it, are tho supremo laws of the land,
and must be obeyed as such, nnd any per
son knowingly violating either, whether he
be a public olhccr or a private citizen, is
guilty of disloyalty to his country.
"d. That the doctrine of Secession is a'
miserable heresy, false in theory and des
tructive to all Constitutional governments
like ours, nnd ihoso who inaugurate or
sustain this abomination must be regarded
as the enemies of the. Republic.
1th. That the civil war by which our
country i at presont disturbed is the nat
ural olfsprin of misguided spctionalism,
engendered by fanatical agitators, North
as well a South, and that as Democrats,
having equally opposed tho extremists of
both, sections, and hiving at all times
zealously contended for the Administra
tion of the general government within its
constitutional limits, we feel that we. are
in no way responsible for tho calamities
that havo rosulted from a departure, from
the requirements of the Federal Constitu

McCracken's.on Saturday evening the 18th
