prisoners wero brought to this city from
Westminster over the Western Maryland

ing the battles going on at or near Gettysburg.

men of fair repute, and fit for their posK
tions, met with no difficulty whf lever.
In Knox township, where the enrolling
officer was shot in the foot, the enrollment
was completed by the Deputy Provost
Marshal for the county C'apt. McKum-
nan who found no difficulty whatever, I
except upon a Fingio insianee with a

port that heavy firing was heard at Bain
bridge, Columbia, .to, all day Thursday in
