the least of two evils. In Switzer
land it is said that the hair of cows is
kept as well combed and dressed as
that of a woman and tho animals
themselves learn carefully to avoid nil
Boiling of their coats. This is going
to one extreme ; but tho opposite one,
the entire neglect which allows the
hind quarter of animals in tho stable
to become coated with manure, is a
Kin agninst common decency. Clean
liness is essential to health. The skin
performs some of the most important
Amotions of tho body. Keep it in
good order by frequent carding and
Drushing. A course card is better for
this purpose than a 6tift' curry-comb.
Much of tho labor may be saved by
supplying tho stalls with plenty of
litter. A good bod of straw will also
aid in keeping the animal comfortably
warm. 1 he importance of this has
too often been urged in tho Agricultu
rist to need repetition here.
Continued confinement is irksome
to all living creatures. Stock of every
kind ehould be allowed to spend a Ul
timo in tho yards during the warmest
fart of every pleasant day. Sunshine
ig stimulating to all natural functions,
and is necessary to full health. Fi
lially, keeping good-natured yourself.
A "jolly" fat man will be much more
likely tohnve jWty fat animals, than
one who can not pass through the
yard without venting his spleen by a
kick or a curse upon some unoffen
ding brute. American Agriculturist.

the plaster and then a layer of apples,

tho spaces and cover tho whole nearly

the top. 1 ho plaster employed is, wc

The New York lli-raU eontiiins t ho fol

this region:
To be nn nboltionist on'es mind must bo
so distorted, wnrpe-,1 and oUoinod tlmt it
is no roiuler if il often breaks entire.v.
An abolitionist ennn it be priictieal, for
abolitionism is impracticable. lie must
confuse with rig!i t wrong, nnd believe Unit
slavery wrong even to llio extent of de
nying the existence of a (Sod because he
reasons tlmt a God would not permit
slavery. lie must tuke rrido in being ec
centric; and from being eccentric in oiin
ion he soon comes to be eccentric in his
dress, in his mode of wearing his hair and
beard and in his manners nnd deportment,
lie must cherish an opinion nil the more
because it is unpoprlur nnd thus he coon
comes to adopt nn opinion for (he very
reason that it is unpopular, therefore, he
argues, must be right. Jle must be blind
to great evils, nnd magnify little evils into
tremendous outrages, to be overcome nl
any cost. Jle must have no consideration
for a white man, except as tubsidary to a
negro.
In short, be must bo a negro worship
per nnd devotee, huiing everything which
otlmr men hold most dear in his ebony
Juggernaut. Of courso such a fanatic is
kicked out of society, and therefore he
attack society, ignores its usage and
amenities, and revenges himself by trying
to break it up and substitute for it a socie
ty of his own.
Thus he con es incloscr contnctwith the
abolitionist in petticoats, who is, if any
thing, worse than himself. Khe is either
a Mrs. Jellaby, neglecting homo duties to'
attend public moeti:tgs, lecture on her
"mission," and manage the correspon
dence ofnn nr.ti-clavery society, or she is
something worse, and has "affinities."
Male nnd female .'ibolitionists mingle in
Unitarian homes, in phalanxes, in free
love bugoities. If they huvo any religion
it is KpiriUuliMii. Hotli sexes insist strong
ly upon woman's rights that is to say,
the right of a woman to be as wicked as
she may please, without remark. What
wonder that with such associations the
male abolitionist looses all courtesy, chiv
alry and politeness. The fcm.iles them
selves rant, rave, dispute, argue lecture
and scold tho vestige of the gentleman
out of him. lie is to regard women
as just as bad or worse than men.
and lives up to his teachings. This is a
picture of an idiolitiDnist fully developed,
honest in his infatuation, nnd conscien
tiously carrying the poison of his abolition
ism into his religion, hit morulity, hit
politics and his social relations. To him
the idea of attacking a lady, whose merit
he cannot appreciate' is as nr.tural as to
others it i abhorrent, Fuiling to. make
our President adopt the abolition theory
of emancipation, he argues that the Ties
ident is a slave driver ; that Mrs. Lincoln,
