F. Johnson. We have a Idea that this affidavit was made for iho purpose of instituting legal proceed ings ag.unst air. Johnson as 6hould bo 4ie, if he was guilty but merely lo glvecoiof to the haso imputations of the editowal remarks, which were predicated upon the broad grour.d that, to be a Dem ocrat, is to bo a fecesaionint and a rebel. Mo person knowing Mr. Johnson would for a moment doubt either his honor, hlllojalty, or his patriotinm. Butansoon W he heard of this charge he called upon lh teison who wu present nt the time th bribe wai nllpi.'od to have Leeii offered, who makes the affidavit cuibrftoed in the following communication from Mr. Johnsun to the e itor of the Journal. It is proper that we ihould here add, that Mr. J'tt communication was handed to Mr. Row on Monday evening of last week, for publication in his paper of the then coming Wednesday. The paper ap pearedbut not the communication but instead, a statement that it was "crowded out." With how much truth this asser tion is made, tho public can judge from the length of the document the d ito at which it was handed in tho contents of ln 'Journal last week tho importance and charaater of the request and theiwV of II. liuchtT S'woope, Esq., (wiio was espe cially active in tho swearing of tho young men) to Pcnnviltc oi TuuJay, the day af ler it was handed to Mr. Row. aid (he day Ifore the paper was pulished.
