It is proper that we ihould here add,
that Mr. J'tt communication was handed
to Mr. Row on Monday evening of last
week, for publication in his paper of the
then coming Wednesday. The paper ap
pearedbut not the communication but
instead, a statement that it was "crowded
out." With how much truth this asser
tion is made, tho public can judge from
the length of the document the d ito at
which it was handed in tho contents of

Persinally appeared before me, a Jui
ticeof the Peace in and for arid county,
1 nomas LUuglierty, who, being duly sworn
according to law,, loth depose and s'ay that
La was present during a conversation had
between Win. F. Johnson of iVnn town
khin, and Hubert II. Derrick and William
George on the 13th day of August, li61,
wherein it is alleged that the said William
F. Johnson did, severally, otter the said
Itobert B. Derrick and Wm. (ieorge, five
dollars "if they wo-ild not go to the ren
desvous after they had enlisted in the hpi
viceof their country" an affidavit to that
eflect, jziven by the bai I Derrick and
George before the lion. Wm. L. Moore,
the20ihday of August, 18C1, appearing
in the "Kaftsmnns Journal" in its issue of
the 2ht August, 1801. Now, the said
Doughorty doth declare that the charges
aetforth in th:il affidavit ore totally un
true, the said William F. Johnson having
inade no such offer.
