Murder in Juniata County
The True Democrat, ot the 14th instant,
give an account of a most shocking min
der in that counly the murdered man,
named Henry Anker, being seventy rive
years old and quite feeblo. It appears
that on last Sunday evening, about seven
o'clock, the family, which consisted of
Mr. Anker, lti a grand daughter, aed II,
and another female, having all retired to
bed but the young girl, 11 run was heard
at the door, which ivat locked; after re
ceiviug orders from Mr. Anker, the girl
opened the door, when two men entered.
The one took a position nt the door, the
other coin;' up to Mr. Anker, demanded
his money, who replied that ho " had not
ten dollars in tho house." The person
spoke his determination to have what
tiiHi-e was. By this lime Mr. Anker had
arison from his bed and made an attempt
to got hold of a loaded gun which wan
near by, saying he would see whether ho
would get it or not, when the murderer
firod a pistol ho lwld. in his hand, the
charge taking effect in the arm of Mr.
Anker at the elbow. It seems to havo
beun the intention to have the shot take
effect in the Lead and kill instantly, but
the perpetrator was mistaken in his aim.
After he had firod, and finding his fiend
Uli desire was not yet accomplished, he
struck his victim on the head with u
hatchet, which accomplished his purpose.
'Che hatchet was thought to have been
procured about Che premises.
During all this time tho girl of fourteen
occupied a seal at a tanu 111 the room ad
joining the one in which tho murder was
committed, with a hook in her hand. As
soon as they had committed the deed, the
murderers fled without ransacking tho
houo for money, when the girl blew a
horn, which ahrmoei tho neighbor
