Tut ''Si'Ricv" C.israovEiv. Since our
list issue wo have received an article from
'Sprucy" in reply to the comments upon
his first letter, which we declino to pub
lih. This controversy hiis already occu
pied considerable of our space, and
would run on ad in finitum if we were to per.
mit it. "Sprucy's" only fault, of which
ire were aware from tho beginning, was in
not making his meaning precise lie had
no intention of saying that ho could not
tolve the questions in Hose's arethmetic
and obtain the answer given ; but desired
to call the attention of teachers to the fact
of these questions having to be worked by
tables not given in tho book. We trust
that this explanation will be satisfactory
to all parties, and that hereafter, teachers
when they wish to engngo in the discus
lion of educational affairs, that they will
cultivate better feeling towards each other.
Petty wrangling about matters which
must appear trifling in the eyes of the com
munity, will do more to retard the placing
the teachers on a level with the other
learned profession than any thing else.
"There's many a si.tf 'twixt cup and

on last Saturday evening, to the great dis

of our town, and many whoso days of ju
venility have began to fade in tho dis
tance. We, of course, nlludo to tho fail.
