April 19.—A despatch just received from Absecom says that up to last night about forty dead bodies—men, women and children, had been washed ashore on thnt beach afid Brigantine beach, about a quar ter ofa mile across the channel. These seen by our. informant appear to | be German —they are all much disfigured, however. Bodies wero washed ashore all the time lit Absecom.- • , . A bod wns ftlso found further up the beach, but nothing has yet been discover ed to indiento the name of the lost vessel. On Monday last the storm hero was most furious, unroofing houses, barns, &c. Seven vessels were blown ashore,—one a hermaphrodito brig (name unknown) from | Norfolk to Boston, with cofn, —the crew | were in the rigging, excopt one who swam ashore. The schooner F. B. Alston, from Now York, with a cargo oflimber, took fire nnd was consumed ; with tho exception of her sails and figging. The schooners Bailey and Minerva wore also ashore, nnd the latter had but recently been got off at an expense of $2,300. The sea was so heavy that no boot could live in it. Seventy sail remained in tho Brorkwnter. The bodies of two women, one man and n boy, were woshod ashore ( at Absccom Beach on Monday—they appeared to havo been emigrants. It was reported yester day, that three more bodies had been found. The Wrecks at Barnegat—Latest from \ the Underwriter. The ship’s surgeon came up to the city this morning by way of Keyport; ho re ports the ship as lying head off shore, on tho outer bar, with 18 feet of water under her bow, and 14 feet aft. About 50 tons of cargo had been thrown overboard, and all hands wero still enga ged in throwing over boxes of tin, &c., to lighten her. . < . Sail has been kept on her, and with the assistance of a steam tug, it was expected she would be got off at high tide, which would bo at 11 A. M. Tho ship docs pot leak of any consequence. The steamer Delaware, hence tor l mi adclphia, which had been laying at an chor inside tho hook from Saturday until Tuesday morning, in endeavoring »o ren der assistance, lost her yawl, and two of her men are drowned. Russel Surges’ steam tugs Titan and Achilles, with schooners in tow, have been sent down to her. The tug Huntress has none down for her passengers. There is tiro n Philadelphia boat there, (probably the Delaware.) I The Titan will afterwards proceed down the beach to the assistance of the ship or passengers a.
