HIGHLY IMPORTANT NEWS, Engagement between Turkish and Rus sian Squadrons.—Disastrous defeat'of i .the Turks.- — Twelve vessels sunk. — Out- 1 V Pascha taken prisoner. Nijw York, Dec, 26,1553. Tiie American S(ufunshi[> Pacific reacli ed her wharf ut the Ibolof Canal street *t 1 o’clock this ulternoon. She brings Liverpool dates to tho 14th, boing 4 days lator. : Tho news generally is very interesting. Tho Liverpool Colton Market closed •teady.. Tho stiles on Tuesday wcrO7OOO titles. , ' - Tho Liverpool Grain Market was belter. Flour had advanced one shilling per bbl. Wheat was twopence better. Corn re tneined without change in price. Tho London Money Market was about tho sumo. Consols closed nt 95. Tho Eastern news is very important.— It is cumered that tho Turks have met a disastrous defeat. The sales of cotton for tho thtce days amounted to 20,000 bales. Prices .firm. Eastern News.—An engagement hnd taken place between the Russian nnd Tor kish squadron near Sinone. Tho latter wore onlirely defeated Omar Pasha wns taken prisoner.— Twelve Turkish vessels were sunk. The largest Turkish vessel destroyed had 800 soldiers on board, besides heavy artillery and largo sums of money. • Tho Turks were bound for tho east const of tho Black Sen, It is rumored that the Russians lost two ships of tho line, three frigates and two steamboats. On the 30th of November, six Russian ships pndcr Admiral MachinoiF, attacked tho Turkish squadron at Shape, nnd not withstanding tlie violent tiro of tho land batteries, completely destroyed seven Tor kish frigates—one steum frigate, two schooners, nnd ihreo transports. Tho engagement between the squadrons lasted one hour und a half, and was most bloody. Omar Paslm was on board tho Turkish flag ship, which was rapidly sinking.— Pasha and crew were tuken on board the Russian ships. This important nows is fully confirmed by later telegraphic, despatches. Spain. —The Ministcry has been defeat ed atid.tliO Cortez broken up. India and China. —The overland mail has arrived.. Trade in ludiq has improv ed. ’ • The cholera has nppearedat.Bombay. Tho fighting at Shanghai und Amoy was going ori still, but withoutany definite result. C3”The Germantown, Training School for idiotic, und feeble minded children, ad vertise that they nro now prepared to re ceive a few additional pupils. None under tho age of twelve venrs are considered as hopelessly idiotic by the superintendents of this institution; But it is nevertheless liighjy important that instructions be com menced early even with the most promis ing of this class if thsir condition is cx. pooled to be improved. See advertisement in unollier C-.hluu. Claim on the Unitid States. — A tel egraphic correspondent at Washington, an nounces to a paper at the North as a mat ter of some consequence, that n claim has been brought before the Mixed Commis sion at London, for the two. millions and a half of bonds issued by the State of Flor ida, previous to its admission into the Uni on, as a Stale. There is probably no doubt that the English bondholders will press their claims on the commission, and just as little doubt that they will be disallowed. Tho United States has no more to do witii these bonds than it has with tho debt of nny iother of the Stales. An Intense Native. — The most de cided case of nativism we havo hoard of lately, is that of a person in Boston, who -vyas asked to attend the Pilgrim ball, at Playmoulh, a few days since. Ho repli ed that ho was not “going forty miles to attend a celebration in honor of the arrival of q set; of foreigners.” (£7”Tho Democracy of Tioga county mot in the Court Hoys') at Wellsborough ofi the Gill inst., and after passing cornpli meptnry resolutions to President Pierce, 'instructed the delegates to the Blh ol March Convention, to support tho nomin ation of Wit), Bigler for Governor und Daniel S.
