year 1852, by the Collins lino from Now
York to Liverpool, was ten days nineteen

j hours, and twentv-four miuutes. Tho

i poriod by the Cunard line from New iork
to Liverpool was eleven days, eight hours,
and fifty-five minutes; from Liverpool
to New York, twelve days, eleven hours,
and thirty minutes. Lis but fair to say,
however, that there have been other com
putations making the difference somewhat
less, but vet not very materially. It must
however,* be borne in mind that three on.y
of the Cunard steamers have the size and
power of the Collins steamers—the Asia,
the Africa, and tho Arabia. The two first
have been almost uniformly beaten m both
directions, though by no means so consid
erable as in the other cases. The Arabia,
I with a power much more largely propor
| lioned to its size than exists in any or the
3 Collins line, and of which the highest ex-
I peCtations were formed by our English
I friends, has yet performed but two voyages
which fairly tested her best abilities—one
in February from New York to Liverpool
• in ten days, three hours, and thirty minutes
and the other in April from Liverpool to
Now York in.tea.days and nineteen hours.
Considering that the Collins line have now
triumphantly mainlined their ground for

fully entitled to regard this contest in i
