•.4th.,.• Deception and, politteal fraud have
been iebillted. The people have declared
distinctly and emphatically that they had
no confidence in the•sincerity of the Whigs
in promulgating their last platform, nor in
the vote•catching speeches of Gen. Scott.
1 - say . "vote-catching" speeches only in
refeeence to the intention of their author,
Akita) . result 'plainly indicates that they
ate re ;Vote-loosing speeches.
sthl, A • large. portion of the Whig party
hltve not only aided in repudiating the
above doctrines but in addition they have
tither by staying away from the polls, by
voting for Webster, orby voting for Pierce
and King, rebuked• the nomination of a
candidate for them, concerning whom, it
remains to be proved that he ever gave a
Whig vote—that he ever advocated a sin•
gle Whig measure—that he ever made a
Whig speech. The friends of Scott have
been repeatedly challenged during the
campaign to show either of the above, but
have failed to 'do it. Come, gentlemen
mourners over Scott's defeat, prove one or
all of the above before you vent your rage
upon those whigs who opposed him t —don't
evade the issue by the assertion that Gen.
Scott has always been considered a Whig.
That will not "answer. Prove it if you can,
bye single act, or word of his life. When
you have done trying, I
• will show by the
record, that,G,en. Scott wrote against the
Whig, Tefiff; of '42 and that Graham vo
ted against it, and in favor of that of '4O.
This is thq.ecket you have voted, and yet
you assume to lecture those who have pos
sibly,' hitherto' aided the Whig cause as
fnucl as you, ref. opposing it and daring to
sustain Pierce and King. We might have
a better opinion • of your consistency, did
you not at the same time declare that had
Webster been the Whig nominee, you
would' have 'done the very same thing,
that yeti how 'condemn in others.
' knough. I will not exult over a
fallen enemy. I believe, that the defeat
ef t ScOtt will prove a blessing to this nation,
and, 60 - believing, the darkest frown which
Whigg,ery can assume will'neither• intimi
