The fame of this milY' spread through
the country, and at last reached the ear's of
a Georgian, who, for a.long time hadheld
undisputed pgssessien of the celebrated pen
knife.... This individual at length deter.

so, onchforning he crossed the Savannah,
About noon he saw a wagorythcacl,.and
rode up to inquire the whereabouts of ilie
family. .
"Hello, stranger!" said he to n man
walking by the: Side of a wagon. .
"Hello, yoursell,", exclaimed) the wag-
onet turning round and discloSing a'conn
tenance so tremendously plain that the
Georgian almost dropped from his horse.
s ay," said the Geer ion, reteverin
a little from the astonishment, "are you
not ugly Jake himself!"
EMI
The wagoner shook his head and grinn
ed a ghastly smile that made him look like
the night mare personified.
"I'll bet ten dollars that you are the ug
liest man in the state," said the Georgian.
"Done," said the wagoner. "Come
here." And going to the back part of the
wagon, he called out, "wake up Jake, and
put your head out hero."
The Georgian burning wiih curiosity,
leaned forward, as the cover was raised
slowly up—Suddenly his eyes Cell upon
physiognomy so awhilly,boundlessly,over
poweringly ugly that it seemed to be fbrrn
ed out of the double extract of delirium
tremens.
The horse snorted and started back in
fright, threw his rider over his head, but
the latter had scarcely touched the ground
before he was mounted again. Throwing
down the ten dollars and his penknife,
without saying a word he struck a bee lino
for Savannah, looking alternately over
each shoulder as long as the wagon re
mained in sight.

A man no matter what his business may
be, never loses anything by advertising.
The more money he cipends on the news
paper, the more money he makes. A per

business with a determination to wend,
in advertising, all his receipts for the first
two years, it was impossible to do so.—
The faster he paid it out the more he re
