her Majesty's dress, but striking one of
the whalebone stays of the dress, the force
of tho blow was turned aside. The dag
ger, however, penetrated the flesh just be
low the last rib, but only caused a slight
wound. A second blow-was ienmediately
given by the assassin, which only caused
a slight wound• on her Majesty's arm.—
The priest was immediately arrested, and
proved to be a wretch of the vilest ct.arac•
ter, who had been In turn a priest, a sol
dier, a traitor, but always an assassin.

The Swiss journals mention that the
goernmont of the Republic is in a state
of great alarm on account of a new note
which has been sent to it by the French
Government.. The latter not only insists
on the expulsion of the French refugees
who are suspecterof plotting against the
government of their country---to which
demhnil the Swiss
_government at once,
and without the slightest heSitation, gave
its consent—but - it insists on the Swiss
government closing all unions; and on its
employing energetteg. measure's against
any popular manifestations which ; have
been got up in that country for the purpose
of forcing the government to have new
elections.
It is said that the French Minister of
Foreign Affairs has intimated to the-Swiss
