Oh, Earth! our God-given Earth! how fair
art thou to-day,
Though . still the sorg-birds rest upon a l eafless

The little children, those dear, loving birds of

Are warbling merrily,. vThe Spring, brigra

While evergreens and mosses rich arc hoard:.

The soft, warm ;ifs steals lovingly into tho
sick one's room,
And to her thin, pale cheek wooed back the
rose's bloom ;
buds, so winter•chilled they seemed
all dead and Fere, ,
Start into tife with tlio- young blossoms of the
year.
Thmk God for Spring! Ohl weary heart,

GRUMBLING AT ADVERTIiFINIENTS
The folloWing sensible remarks we
clip from the Columbus Statesman
. Men, at times; are very Unreason-
Ole, and oft'en practice one thing and
- brea:ch another. For example, a far
met ha's beef,,corn and tobacco to sell
Should a purchaser Wish to. buy his
best without the bone; the corn with
out the cub, or the tobacco without
the stem, and thi& without paying an
extra price over the regular terms, the
farmer er y properly regards the pro
position as ; outrageous,. and . sells the
bone as as the beef, and thinks it
right, as iit.truth it is; and yet we con
stantly find themi grumbling at news
paper pubh - sliers for refusing to do it.
Owners of neWspapers refuse to sell
corn without the cob, and beef withoiit
the bone unless En extra price is paid,
e., they refuse to publish a news
paper without advertisements. In
doing this they only do .what, their
readers. practice in all matters of busi
neslP, of analagous character.
! Therefore when a man complains to I
us f9r having advertiseinents in our 1
•u3 - ber, and expresses a wish that they
Lay be .taken . o.ut, and reading matter
substituted, we avow our perfect will
iingness to second his wishes on the
paying of an extra price. To ask us
to exclude all advertisements from our
columns. audio sell our paper at pres. :
ent prices, would be as unreasonable
as to ask one of our farmers to sell Ls
beef without the hone,. at five cents
' per pound, while everybody else was
selling both together at that sure.
Do. yoga see ?
In shin.t, that is the question. Will
- you have a paper with no advertise
ments, or no paper at all? ThLs is the
«rue issue.. The bones as well as the
beef, or nothing, fora, paper could be
no more sustained without advertise
ments.than a farmer could raise a crop
without soil: With these feW thoughts
for a text, every one of our readers
can .make a sensible sermon on this
subject.
