•At a special mee ting' of illysses Di
vision No. 458 of-the Sons of Temper
ance, held on the 31st day of January,
1854, the following resolutions were
read and unanimously adopted :
Whereas, The.Aimighty Father and
Great Disposer of Events has seen fit, in
his wisdom, to take from us by death
OUT much-loved brother, NATHAN DAN
vas, in the morning of life ; therefore,
Resolved, . That we, in acknowledging
this sad bereavement, forget not that
Cod is just and afflicts not willingly, bt.t
in mercy ; that though He has taken to ,
his long home a brother of our fraternal
band, yet we will not mourn as those
who have no hope.
Resolved, That in the death of our
brother, this Division has met with a loss
which we most deeply feel—his family,
an affectionate • brother; and society a
useful member.
I~egoloel, That we tender ouW•sincere
sy pathies to his bereaved family, and
may they turn to God in their affliction ;
He alone can speak pease to the troubled
soul in the hour of adversity.
&soloed, That this Divion tender
their Most sincere thanks to Willing
Division for the very prompt and timely
assistance rendered our deceased brother
during his short but painful illness, and
may Heaven blvss them for This their
labor of love.
Resolved, That 2 copy of these reso
lutions be presented to the family of the
deceased, to Willing Division, and also
to the People's Journal, with: the re
quest that they be published.

What if they were now ordered to be
closed a day every time there should be
a death in a family, directly tracabie to
that "licensed grocery?" The placard
announcing the fact need not be made
of paper ; no, nor tin, nor wood ; it should
he cut in iron or stone, or some material
that wou!d ei d.tre forever. The sign
